It is mandatory that all vehicles have a UHF radio in their car even if it's a good hand held. An in car one would be better as being 5 watt would have better range with an aerial as we will be spread out due to the dust.A hand held would also be handy as a back up when needed even a cheap one.
This helps when doing recoveries as we normally switch channels. This happened at our first crossing palm creek. We were on one channel as I guided members in to the creek and another channel when being winched out.
We will be sitting on channel 10 on the trip and will be advised if you need to change during the trip.
When traveling in convoy we will be spread out a fair distance so the recovery vehicles in each group will spread out with one being in front, one in the middle and one at the end. They will keep you advised of the conditions ahead.
Don't get me wrong it is a great trip and can be an easy but with the large amount of vehicles on this trip we are only as fast as the last vehicle.
