I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but anyway....
I leave for Brisbane on the morning of the 17th to pick up my Trackabout CT, I was hoping to stay in Parkes or Dubbo. Can anyone recommend anywhere to camp overnight? I am travelling on my own and will be kipping in my swag.
Any info appreciated as I do not know the area and have never travelled through there before.
Regards,
Col.

Hi Col,
Terramungamine Reserve is a good place to stay, it`s 10 klm. north of Dubbo beside the river on the Terramungamine Rd. Has toilets, bbqs etc.
Congatulations on the Trackabout. Enjoy :cup:

another vote for Terramungamine. Nice little spot. Try and get there in the early afternoon waits standing room only by 4pm.

Unless you want somewhere nice and quiet and being that you are by yourself - well I'd just pull over in a rest stop and have a couple of hours kip before heading home.....

The turn off to Goobang National Park is on the Hwy between Parkes and Dubbo (just after Tomingley) It's only a short drive into Wanda Wandong Camping area. Just another option if you wanted to be a bit more out of the way.
The other alternative is to skip Dubbo altogether and travel via Narromine and across to the Newell between Dubbo and Gilgandra ( I think this way is actually a little bit quicker) There is a river reserve close to the turn off you'll need to take. PM me if you'd like more info on that one.

I agree..
From mates experience who offered to let me stay with him the night he had 4000 of gear stolen, I wouldnt stay in Dubbo if someone bought me a house. Its full of people the police wont arrest when they rob you.
Others have had better luk than Richo did.

Dubbo gets a worse rap than it deserves.

Maybe, but i stayed in town with the family for 2 nights while we did the Dubbo Zoo thing. Granted it was a Fri/Sat night but there was drama everynight with locals. No worse than many other big towns but like other big towns if i were camping i'd stay well away from town.
cheers

Dubbo is a lot different now to when I was in my early 20's 15 or so yrs ago.
Driving through their now and pulling up in the main street to use the ATM after dark I didn't feel safe. I'm a big boy and have lived in western Sydney so I'm used to that feeling.
It wasn't like that 15yrs ago - go back even further and when staying with my Aunt I could roam the streets till night time without a prob. It's a different story now
Back on topic though I vote for the Goobang Forest campsite - it's nice
Cheers

Stayed at one of the caravan parks there last July. Won't be doing that again in a hurry. The place was all high fences and security everything. Signs in the amenities about taking care for stuff getting stolen. Sure it was well maintained, but the security hassles and the noise from the hoons meant a poor sleep. The CP lady said the one closer to the main part of town with no fences had worse problems with theft.
Glad to see the alternatives being posted - we'll use them this winter if we come through that way.

Mendoorun is another good spot, has showers and toilets, it's on the Mendoorun to Dubbo Rd and is actually a shortcut if coming from the north(QLD) through to Dubbo.
