Something I subscribe to whilst camping is TheEarlyWarningNetwork (http://www.ewn.com.au/). They will send you either/both a text and an email warning of potential weather hazzards in your home area.
"Please note free registrations are only available to residents of participating councils and EWN Partner businesses."
