Title: Greeting from new Perth member
Post by: beachrover on January 06, 2012, 10:41:46 AM
[img]I'm just finding my way around this very informative forum.
I've been a hard-floor happy camper for many years and have just recently returned from our favourite beach escape east of Esperance. We have recently downsized from a large 4WD + Aussie Swag to a freelander 2 + Kimberley RV LTD. It all works well but the KK doesn't seem to cope with high winds very well.

Looking forward to participating in this forum

Welcome mate.
This is the first time I see another SportsRV, well done.
So are the one who bought this trailer from Jamie just before the show?

What do you mean by not liking the wind?
We were camped up at the cliffs at the Nullarbor last year with heavy wind. The canvass was clapping but the trailer stood fine. It was shaking every now and then, but I think that is normal.

Hi Willsurf, great to chat with another KK owner

Yep, I brought mine from Jamie a couple of months ago. I've always had Aussie Swag but I wanted to go with a lighter setup mainly for better economy on the long trips so I chose the KK RV. Quite happy with the design , build quality and finish but the canvas work is not as well designed as the Aussie Swag...but I am a bit fussy:

1. The tropical roof spans to far from the top hoop to the end and slaps madly againts the tent even in moderate winds...really needs another support.
2. The en suite is just face fixed to the tent with velcro. Should have a tab coming of the tent similar to the awning and provision to fix to the posts.
3. tucking the canvas in around the hinges when closing is fiddly. I've already ripped mine...really annoyed.
4. Ropes and pegs are pretty average compared to my previous CT

Also, the space vacated by the pull out kitchen could be made accessible from the other side for storage while camping. And a minor thing, the stalk light in the front box is useless. I've fixed one to the underside of the lid which is out of the way and gives better illumination.

anyway enough whinging, still a good CT but I will make some modifications to suit

Ours doesn't work anymore. The inside lights are great and the front is good for our girls when they get their toothbrush which we store on top of the hot water system.
You are right about the tropical roof, it is flexing a lot.
We have little tears in the corners where the horizontal goes to diagonal. The CT is with Jamie now for some minor repairs. The jockey wheel isn't great either. Too weak as the bearings are collapsed again.
But he is taking care of it.
We love our KK, hopefully can use it again on Australia Day.

Welcome Beachrover!

Sorry to hear of your ripping of the canvas, if it's any consolation, you're in esteemed company  :-[

I used GK Timmers (around the corner from Jamie) for my repair.

Enjoy the new CT

Hi beachrover

Welcome to Myswag.

Those Kimberleys are definitely swish setups - we recently camped with friends who had one for 4 weeks and theirs seemed to have no end of gizmos and gadgets!    They too had some issues with their canvas when it was windy though. It was their first time using it though so possibly their setting up regime may have required some work to improve the situation???

Welcome to the forum - out of curiosity what is your favourite east of Esperance beach?

Hi Gadgetman

our favourite spot is at the very southern most end of Alexander Bay. It faces north and is well protected from the wind. It can be a bit tricky getting there but this keeps the crowds away
