My 39L Engel Fridge has stopped working. The fridge is 11 years old and has performed faultless until a few days ago. The green power light is on, however the motor/fan is not working and it will not cool. I have tried both 12V and 240V with the same result. I have even tried tipping it upside down for a day it still isn't working.
How do you tell if the the it needs regassing? Has anyone had the same problems?
-
I had exact same issue it was a seized compressor... $600...
does yours make noise?? sound like its doing anything/ mine didnt.
-
Hi, I have a 10 year old 39l engel. The fan stopped working a couple years back and I bought a replacement from the local ARB dealer for approx $30. Took an hour or two to pull fridge casing apart but has been fine since.
 Macca.
-
I had the same issue with my 40ltr, compressor died, replaced under warranty.
-
Thanks for the replys. The fridge isn't doing anything other than the green light on the dial. I can't see a problem with the fan or wiring. $600 for a compressor??? Thanks for the heads up. How did you know the compressor sh!t itself. I'll get the local service tech's to have a look at it.

Turned it on, nothing happened, not even a click sound, light came on :( Day 2 of a 3 week flinders trip...
took it to Engel Service place, they said its not uncommon... DDR had a similar issue with his 40 recently, only couple mths out of warranty too, hes a happy person.

my 9 year old engel died last year same thing, needed new power board $350.00 I had it repaired no probs since.
IMO Engels are not what they used to be, my old mans green & beige one is 30 + years old and still going strong.
-
I agree with you Pling. Thare are not what they used to be. Iv'e taken it to the local engel service repair place so i will find out in a few days time what I am in for.
I will keep you updated on the outcome. Thanks again for your imput.

:'( Mine died twice, had it repaired by a fridgey then it died 2 years later after not being used for a couple of months, the engel bloke said about $600, and they basically just turf the old stuff and just keep the case... ??? Anyway been going good last 2-3 years.... ( time flies when your not looking)

Would be interested to know if your fridges were used all the time even when not camping, or turned off when not in use. My engel is 11 years old also and has only ever been off for cleaning after a trip.(leave it off for day or 2 to dry out and clean). It is then either used or turned down low with a bottle of water in it. The only thing I have done is replaced the fan like Macca last year, it got a bit noisy.

Repair guy said need to run it every month or they block up its a common thing unless you run "often"...
mine sat in the shed for months, now it sits in shed full of beer and UDL's.

Thanks for the reply Lost, I was wondering if i was doing the right thing or not.

Our Engel that was 2 months out of warranty needed new compressor etc, $550. the Repair guy said to put it on a timer & run it for a few hours a month at least. If you dont do this the oil apparently sits on the bottom & blocks something. A very common fault, the repair center keep spares of it.
Our Wacko never had this problem in more than 10 years of off/on service.

Now, there's one for the books ;D
-
No there's one for the books ;D
True but id still buy an Engel over a Waeco any day.
-
Apparently it IS in the user manual.... although I cant find it written anywhere..
-
Sounds like the compressor has died, as someone has previuosly stated they don't make them like they used to ,I have had my 39 lt when they first changed the colour over and it is still going, sat in the shed for 12 mths and it worked well over Xmas and now back into the shed till next year

UPDATE:
I spoke to the repair bloke today and stated that there was no power comming from the power board. He quoted me $360 for a new one (power board) + $25 in freight & 2 hours labour at $88p/h. Im up for about $630 to have it fixed.
Looks like you were on the money PLING.
Thanks for all your postings. It is great to have the knowlege and feedback available.

So are you going to get it fixed or put the money towards a better brand ;)

Im pretty sure they dont sell to the public.
Coromal maybe try getting another quote. The fridgy that did mine charged me around $40 labour
-
Yeah. Im am getting it fixed. However, with more camping fridges available today if it occurs again I will be considering to buy another brand.
.
I was told that Engel do not sell the parts to general public. If Engel sold the power board's separate, I would have fixed this problem myself. Saving about $180.00 for labour.
I priced a 40L Engel during Christmas $1100.00 to replace.
-
My Engel is back and as good as new. $550 out of pocket. The fridgy pointed out numerous other brands of fridges he had out back for repair that were only 2-3 years old. I was convinced that 11 years of hard work from my Engel was a pretty good run considering it has been on almost every car trips, in boat when fishing and trailer when camping. Im hoping for at least another 11 years.

HELP!!
60 litre Engel is half working
The freezer works but not the fridge section. The temp gauge is displaying -16. I have had it on for several days now and the beer and juice is not cold at all. Where as the freezer section is icy. Anyone have any ideas?

Yea, we also never turn ours off (Waeco's). The 60 has been running for 7 years now and the 50 for 4.

Working now! Many thanks to the guys at Eastern Homewares (Engel Repairer) located at Heathmont Vic. They repaired it first thing. The fan was rooted. ;D

All good now, I have a fridge ;D

Fridge stopped today again on the way down to Geelong, get home and all has power to the right places, turns out the lead that plugs into the fridge has rattled apart, luckily I carry a spare and its all nice and cold again. Its partially my fault as its a tight fit with the 60L squeezing in the drawer unit. Happy cold drinks again ;D
