Oh man am I in the ***** up to my nose :-\ :-\ SWMBO has advised me that any camper that I expect her to camp in MUST have the kitchen INSIDE the tent section :'( :'( :'( s that has taken out 90% of the campers that I've been looking at.s**t :'(
I have an opportunity to have a look at a 2008 spacevan o/r model apart from wear holes in the canvas can you give me a few tips as to what to look for in the way of faults or damage as this is a new ball game for me
The owner says its a 2008 spacevan offroad, but going by his description I think it may be the "Drover" asking $22k, would this be about righthttp://www.caravancampingsales.com.au/buy/details.aspx?R=11740758&PriceToCaravan=1560&__Qpb=1&Cr=0&__Ns=p_StockPrice_Decimal|1||p_StockRankSort_Int32|1&__No=75&__N=1549%201552%201601%204294964593%204294965530%204294958344%201579%201560&silo=1701&PriceFromCaravan=1579&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=191&__sid=133BD73E6AC7 (http://www.caravancampingsales.com.au/buy/details.aspx?R=11740758&PriceToCaravan=1560&__Qpb=1&Cr=0&__Ns=p_StockPrice_Decimal|1||p_StockRankSort_Int32|1&__No=75&__N=1549%201552%201601%204294964593%204294965530%204294958344%201579%201560&silo=1701&PriceFromCaravan=1579&seot=1&__Nne=15&trecs=191&__sid=133BD73E6AC7) What are your gut feelings, good, bad ,indiferent
Lordy, what ever happened to a 2 man tent and bit of foam rubber?

I know this is going to be hard but I highly advise cooking inside canvas is not a good idea. Once the cooking smell gets into the canvas it's very hard to get rid off. I have not and will note cook inside the Jayco, maybe boil water and that's it. Good luck but not a good idea IMO........ ;D
-
But what about SWMBO ???
-
I feel your pain but easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.....
But what about SWMBO ???

The easy answer is!
Any unit with an outside kitchen!
Problem solved!
Bonus is you get the bed ALL to yourself!
Cheers

We have the 2009 Space Van Off Road Drover (the offroad is the Drover I believe).
Has the internal kitchen with the external pull out 'BBQ' (two ring burner with plate). All stainless steel. Went for the twin beds rather than the one bed as you get more room inside.
We mostly cook inside and there are no lingering cooking odours at all. Great in winter as it warms the CT, but not so good in summer. That one has an outside BBQ for outside cooking and there are usually two gas outlets at the front of the CT. Cook either in or out.
What to look for!
Check the fridge connection to 12V as we had ours melted (connector may have got knocked when we closed the top down and was making a bad connection). We changed our connection to a pair of Anderson connectors at the back of the fridge) instead of the std 12V merit plug with a 20A fuse and wired to the dist box.
Check the tyre wear - even wear across the tyres as ours started to 'feather' on one tyre. We have possibly gone over weight or one of the springs was faulty - springs replaced under warranty just in case by CUB. Brilliant after sales service.
Zip on the door at the top curved section as it can be difficult to use sometimes if you don't get the canvas right. The Zip can wear in the curved area.
Check the windows stitching (plastic section).
The fridge may be the 15A 12V model so check the main battery fuse and change it to 20A if need be.
As you say, canvas wear.
Nice to have extra walls and awning (we got the awning and walls, but also made 'extra walls' from shade cloth and used 'Hook N Loop' to hang it all together.
We had a few minor issues but all were addressed by CUB under warranty.
You really don't have to worry much about the Space Van offroad (drover) as they are built well - quite strong.
That looks very much like the one we camped alongside at Lucky Bay in the Cape Le Grand NP this year. Almost certain it is. They had the extra tie down points sewn onto the awning to help in high winds.
Just check the suspension on that one as theirs had a suspension failure - springs or shocker came adrift early on in its life. OK if it has been fixed properly.
It was looking a bit tired when we saw it but they had been out and about for months.
-
Just remembered, that if it is the one we saw this year, the box next to the gas bottles is an extra, I think he said his son did it.
Also check the top section welding (which is the floor when open). They stored some items on top and climbed up to tie things down etc. Probably OK, just worth a squizz.

looks great ....................offer him 20 ;D ::)

Geeze glad swmbo's eyesite isn't as sharp as yours Estelle >:D Thanks for the tips, think I might have a look tomorrow
cheers Keith

Well I'm not joining the "cub club" yet
You were spot Estelle.Tent very tired, looks like a colander from inside, shocks had come adrift at some time and been rewelded but a bit ordinary. Nothing looked like it had seen a grease gun since it was built, 2 different tyres, so the search goes on :)

Better luck next time xcvator.
Most of the things are easy enough to get fixed, but when you are forking out $22k .... Different tyre types, geee, and they had been off road a lot.

Offer them 15 grand ;D
