Title: Help finding a BBQ grill for camp fire
Post by: Markbell on December 18, 2011, 06:50:19 PM
Hi there,

Been trying to find a BBQ grill that I saw camping last year that is basically a grill plate that has a frame with legs.

The grill itself can be removed from the frame.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Thanks d4d, I saw those but the one I am after is a proper BBQ grill plate and u can use it either with the frame/legs or just the grill on it's own.

This dude does a few different types including one where the pltae is seperate to the frame. I think it is the one shown in one of Ron Moons travel guides or it is very similar. Hopefully the link works  - first time I've tryed it.

...echoing D4D's Hillbilly recommendation - (and supports Aussie manufacturing) - and highly recommend the cookstand:

... the BBQ plate can be used seperately (on rocks/bricks) without legs getting in the way - but most importantly - with the cookstand you can adjust height/heat easily, no matter how big/small your fire is.

Another Hillybilly fan here. We never camp without it. Mainly use it on the stand over the fire but both the BBQ plate and the round frypan work just as well on our 2 burner stove if wood is an issue.

Hi,
I have a Biji Barbi (http://www.biji-barbi.com.au/about.html) which I am happy with.

If I use it on the stove, it needs a round head nut and bolt in the drain hole in the centre of the plate.

cheers

We love out Hillbilly cremiere, we use the bbq pate on the plate holder generally, because the height can be adjusted,  but it can be used with the fold up legs, or on the portable gas cooker.

Here's mine that I made myself along the lines of that Hillbilly one. Works great. Just drive the post in next to the fire and you have infinite adjustability up and down around.

By the way, the steak was very tasty! ;D

I've got a couple of Hillbilly plates, a large one that folds in two for packing and a smaller one where the legs pop out for packing. The Bidji is a thing of beauty, and it is worth chatting to Tony who makes them even if you don't want one. He is an aussie character.

I also have a pole and plate that one of my best mates made for me, but I haven't used it yet, because I nearly always camp with him and use his  ;D
