Late last week I blew the turbocharger in the Old 80 Series... All I could think was 'Sorry Kids Holiday is cancelled" :(
I however may have saved it with some quick phone calls, parts delivery and a Bloody Awesome Mechanic (Lets Hope)
BTW If you run a Older Turbo'd vehicle without a Front Mount Intercooler, In my case a 91 HDJ80 you could be running a risk of more than a turbo replacement... IF you don't maintain your turbo. i.e. get it serviced/checked regularly :(
Some Photo's of the 80 getting Trucked and a couple of Turbo bits including a broken shaft - Oh when I said I blew it I really meant it, had at least one bit exit via the top Silicon Pressure pipe.. Also a couple pics of the New HiFlow CT26 Turbo I got from WA...

Lets Hope she starts when he gets it together....

Hope it all goes well and you get it back on the road.
One way to look at it better last week than next week.
-
Hope it starts ok for you and no broken bits found there way into the motor. Have a great Christmas.

Good Luck and I hope it all comes together for you!

hope it gets sorted.. any intercooler can fill with Shit not just front mounts if the snail goes. but Id be more concerned with the engine!

Blood Oath,
When I bought the IC for the 80 I sold it to the Mrs as a turbine filter and that purchase is likely to be an investment.. mechanic popped the injectors took his little camera had a look inside and is confident everything is fine..
I have the IC at a shop getting the tanks removed and cleaned then re welded "just to be sure to be sure" and I was really surprised just how small the galleries are in the safari IC... There was also about 1.5 litres oil in the IC when hoses were disconnected so with the ingest of turbine and oil I hope that all was stopped at IC'er...
If there was No intercooler
Engine would have been full of debris and likely to have had started running on it's own oil which would have guaranteed a new engine... As it was the IC saved the day so far "Touch Wood".....

Bad news ....... At least it has a silver lining !!!! Interested to see how the new turbo goes ;D

Any thoughts as to why it went bang? how many Km's?
I see my IC as a turbo catcher. Like you say cheap insurance with benefits.
All the best
