Just been out for a run and driving past the local shell petrol station I noticed that diesel is presently $1.50 per litre.
Why????? The crude price has fallen and the A$ is still up............doesn't make sense????
Ahhh, of course it wouldn't be because of the shopper dockets at Coles or Woolworths offering up to 10 cents off would it?
I've always said, many years ago, the worst thing to happen to competitive petrol pricing was to allow the big 2 retailers to get 80% of the market between them.
What makes matters worse is the Government wont to diddly squat because they are raking in too much.
Sorry, had to get that off my chest. What's the price like in other places?
Cheers.

Dunno the price but I have to put 160L in the Prado this weekend :(
-
Brisbane fluctuates around $1.45 - $1.55. It is an absolute joke for a few reasons;
1.) Diesel is less refined than unleaded so cheaper to produce
2.) We have refineries on our doorstep in Brisbane and often the place is more expensive than regional centres
It is crap the amount of times we have to pay tax on our cars. At purchase, yearly with rego, at toll points, at the fuel pump, gst on servicing etc etc etc
-
I paid $1.55 per litre for diesel yesterday...

Don't worry if we all swapped to LPG the price would be about $1.45 a litre too.
-
Cheapest in Perth today is 1.44 but it is mostly around 1.55.

I thought the tax on lpg was supposed to be removed at some stage which is why i have steered clear of it.
-
Hey Paul, diesel is 148 here in Mackay. It is still too bloody dear.
-
I thought the tax on lpg was supposed to be removed at some stage which is why i have steered clear of it.
years ago, the Gov put in place a plan to increase LPG every few yrs by %age, (people wouldnt notice as much) it wont be goin down.... this is why the gov created the LPG scheme... for everyone to fall into the trap thinking they will save save save :(

LPG's excise free status was suppose to end July just gone with (I think) 12 cents being wacked on. I did not notice anything at the time but about a month ago the cheapest LPG in Perth rose around 6-8 cents and has not gone down since. I thought this may have something to do with the excise but no fuel suppliers have been able to confirm it when I asked. I also could not believe the gov would wait 4 months to bring in a tax that had been on the books for years.

Hi Paul,
I've asked the question in many forums over the last 3 years or more and have been told all manner or reasons for the price of diesel at the pump.
The me it is all Horse Crap.
I agree with " the worst thing to happen to competitive petrol pricing was to allow the big 2 retailers to get 80% of the market between them"
"Why????? The crude price has fallen and the A$ is still up............doesn't make sense????"
I've watch religiously the Aussie dollar compared to the price P/Barrel to the pump price and there is no rhyme or reason for the price.
EG;
The Aussie battler climbs, our import costs should fall, the price per barrel falls, our pump price should fall.
Yet with the fluctuations in the Aus$ & the barrel price over the past 3 months the pump price here in Grafton as stayed the same, $1.49.9, now that the Aus$ dropped to 98.6US Wednesday, the pump price jumped to $1.52.9.
yet when the AUS$ was 108US, and the barrel price had fallen to $92us the pump price stayed at $1.49.9
Hmmm, and we still pay for a Fuel Commissioner to sit on his arse and do nothing.
What really gets is, a few years ago, all governments as well as motoring organizations pushed people to change to diesel, more bang for you buck, better for the environment, Blah Blah, so we changed,
The same thing will happen with Gas, a couple of years down the track and it will be the same price per kilometer to use it.
And why would governments want to have lower pump prices?
They wont, they are to reliant on the tax they rake in from it.
other thing, the poliies and those that can make a difference wont, they couldn't give a stuff if it was $3/L, they are on a good wicket pay wise or they can claim it so the taxpayee picks up the tab anyway.
Time for another beer me thinks.
Edit,
I had read somewhere, cant find it, that with the diesel rebate, us silly retail customers are paying for it,
So a business cliams the rebate, where does the government pick that up from, a higher pump price.
i hope I'm wrong.

Just found this info. http://www.news-mail.com.au/story/2011/12/03/tax-rise-to-hit-lpg-drivers/ (http://www.news-mail.com.au/story/2011/12/03/tax-rise-to-hit-lpg-drivers/) .
I suppose it`s inevitable, but in the meantime it`s still the cheapest option for us, especially as the GQ had the gas connected when we purchased it and it runs better on it anyway.
 Robyn.

The increase in LPG is 2.5 cents / litre per year for the next 5 years (12.5 cents in total).....wow, big deal.
Funniest thing was the the taxi drivers that were on the news the other day, talking about the increase. They were absolutely insulted by an increase in LPG. The reporter asked how much extra it would cost to fill their LPG tank and the response was "$2". How often then do you fill your LPG tank was the next question..... "twice per day". So it was going to cost the cabbie an extra $4 to run his car, yet apparently the cabbies were saying they are "forced" to significantly increase the cost of the fares they are charging to cover the cost of the increase in LPG. Sounds like a good way to increase their margins hey ???

$1.53 here in Adelaide - an absolute bloody ripoff!!
What also pisses me off - premium unleaded used to be only 10c more that regular unleaded - now it is 15c - work that one out!! Premium profits more like it!!!!
-
im sorry ,i shouldnt comment , but i run a company fuel card ,and i still cringe cheers Graham

Where I live at Roma diesel is $1.52 however as you drive east 130klms away is Miles also 10 cents dearer than Roma yet it's closer to Toowoomba. It seems to me that some of the oil companies that have a market with no competition are a lot dearer, yet as I read the so called fools of the government who created the fuel commissioner for what. The answer is nothing just more wasted tax payer dollars for a government stooge.
Cheers Darren :police:

I live near Horsham Vic, we have been paying round 1.50 or more for months, price doesnt fluctuate much here stays the same for a week or so and then only up or down a few cents... went on a trip along the kidman way up to townsville, from memory i only once paid more for fuel than i would have at home... all the excuses are crap especially the transport one
did i mention i drive 500km a week to get back and forth to work, theres people here that do more too.... crazy stuff ;D hence wifey drives the 4x most of the time and i get the little buzz box.... ha!

x2 - Certainly the case on our recent trip - The highest price we paid was in Appollo Bay $159.9 - 1 servo & lots of yuppy Melbournites I guess.
-
World wide demand increasing (China and India) and we pay higher prices. It wouldn't be so bad if the double taxing on fuel was reduced to just GST in my reckoning on the matter.
-
with the price we pay for lpg in gero it works out about the same cost per km as petrol especially when you start figuring in the extra servicing cost of lpg systems
-
Today about 140 KM out of Melb Diesal is $1.379
At Kalcalo just oiutside Meld its $1.489
Iner Melb its $1.519
Its freight mate , long way to travel costs more you know
Or we are being screwed again
-
Today in Canberra, I had to spend $1.549/l to fill.
Better than just 24 clicks out of town where it was $1.69. Don't tell me it's freight, 'cause I won't believe it.

First 2.5c/l was just added (1 Dec) ... will ramp up to a total of 12.5c/l by July 2015.

$1.49.9 here in Wodonga for Diesel. Price does not move much here and surprisingly it can be consistantly cheaper than Melbourne ( edge of Victoria is located at Kalkallo eh?)
-
205.9c / Litre on the Nullabor a few weeks back.
-
$1.499 here this morning for Diesel
$1.449 here this morning for 91%
$1.659 here this morning for 98%
All a blardy rip off if you ask me. In saying that Coke per litre at Coles this week is $1.50. ;D
