Post by: Bird on December 02, 2011, 01:56:23 PM
story starts off well...
"Three years ago, a survey found that three in five Australians were opposed to four-wheel-drives and sports utility vehicles using city and suburban roads"

While I was driving to work one morning a work mate was getting of the workers bus and he walked right out in front of my Nissan. He had just came of a twelve hour night shift and then a one hour run home in the bus, yes he was tired and failed to look where he was going and what was coming, lucky I did recognise the workers bus and had slowed down , but i still hit him fair and square with the bull bar. The bull bar save his life, as he was going down he grabbed hold of the bar and hung on , saving him from going under the 4 x 4 and getting badly smashed up or worse. Yes he was bruised and badly shaken , but he was alive and able to go home from the hospital after only three hours.

I live in the desert. If I want to go camping anywhere closer than 300km, I have to have a 4WD and use it as a 4WD. I would not drive it as a daily driver around the city and my wife walks the kids to school as its quicker than trying to park the car.

Ban 4WD from the city you will ban most of country people being able to shop in the city on the odd occasion or taking a holiday with the family. Same as the debate around bull bars. We have a roo being hit around these roads at least once a week. Only last week there was another roll over of a sedan after hitting a roo. So far this year there have been at least 8 (rollovers) near the town that I know of.

We are 4WD owning motorcyclists....we kill kittens and drive wherever we want with our bullbar proudly leading the way  stupid beige city slicker soccer parents >:( I say that people who live in the city shouldn't be allowed outside the city limits ;)

i want to know how the votes are counted, seems we are losing the vote by 10%, not to bad though i guess, what i want to question is the comments, im sure that about 70% of them are pro 4wd, so how can the votes be so far out. we all need to get onto the votes and really show em all.
i do agree that people driving SUV's with 22 inch wheels and a nudge bar are considered 4wds, it really frustrates me, it is no different than driving a bloody torago, yet no one say ban them.... i drive trucks in the city and on major freeways daily, the morons in the cars are my only annoyance, the 4wders are all pretty switched on
