Well its time to do a count as to who can make the trip next year. Could members who are on the list below please advise by the 31st December whether they are available for the trip or not. Thanks. I will then start the planning for accomodation etc.
Only members on this list for now, as if numbers drop I can add more.

Mark
Can I ask what is "plan B" ??
I look like being a contender also
Will be traveling from the far South West tip of Australia, up to the far North East tip of Australia :cup:
( who else wants to join in with me for the journey through the red centre )
-
Count us in, can't wait :D

The hardest thing organizing trips like this is making it enjoyable for everyone. That's why I look for expressions of interest and then cap it so that I can get exact numbers. I have members waiting for others to drop out so they can go and unless people have put their name down I do not know who is attending.
Once i have exact numbers I plan each day so that we can all travel together and camp together. This also helps with members who are not sure of their ability in tackling tough tracks as we have experts to assist.
I then plan accommodation so that again we can all get in together...example the huts at Seisa as there are only so many and I can arrange hut numbers for the members going.
I could make it a Tagalog and People plan their accomodation but then people are unsure of which accommodation. It is easy to have one person planning than 20. Members at any time can do their own thing but most like the company of this great forum.
Plan B is breaking into 2 groups.

Hey we would be keen as to do that , i would be in for shore
-
can I ask for a map route, as to what
roads and tracks you guys will be using going up to the Cape :D
What creek crossings etc ??
I've been looking at some Utube videos of the various creek & river crossings up there, some are not what I would go downand expect to be able to drive home again
:worthles:
-
Looking at the itinerary will help you plan the trip.
The main road is the development rd which can bypass the otl and you can get to the Cape in 2 days easy.
The southern part of the otl starts at Bramwell junction.
The creeks are palm creek ( steep exit), Dulhunty , bertie, gunshot ( steep drop in now and then ), cockatoo are all easy and will have water in them but not deep only half way up the tyres.
The northern otl has canal, sams, cannibal, lagoon all with water. Lagoon was half way up the door. Log bridge and then Nolan's creek which was up to the headlights on most cars and the hardest crossing due to the deep water. It has a sandy bottom.
In saying this every year is so different as each week the tracks can change. Last year was the hardest I have encountered in 4 trips up there. It all depends on our wet season.
All theses creeks are croc free.
I hope this helps.

We have a group of 30. I will start arranging the accommodation.
Lions Den....I will give them a call and will advise if we have to book and when.
Seisa Huts....I have a map of the park and will allocate huts and liaise with them. Not all members will fit into huts but will try and make sure you all camp on the beach front. You will be advised what hut number and who you will be sharing it with.
Do not book or arrange accommodation until advised otherwise it confuses things.

Hi hubby and I have just joined myswag and are doing the trip to cape this year, but on our own, we would love to go with a group. Are you full or can we join in? We have a Nissan Patrol all fitted out and cub off road camper both ready for the trip. We have only had the camper for 6 months and have done a couple of long weekends and love it can't wait to get out more.

Leon and Naideen,
I'm going up there also, but I'm not on the list as we are not guaranteed to be there at the appointed time, we are going from the far South/West tip of Australia through the desert to the tip of Cape York Peninsular (following the red line on my icon map)
We would be attempting to make our plans coinside with the 30 member group, but we can't guarantee to be at the starting point at the correct time due to the complexity of traveling so far to get there, so we are not expecting to be counted as part of the group.
Is only 3 vehicles (so far) in our group from West Australia ;D
-
You must know some people to be able to travel up the west coast of the cape like that - most of it is Aboriginal land on that side.

and when you look at the red line on my map it does not show going anywhere near Cairns either, but I am going there ;D
The towns of Karumba and Weipa are both over on the west coast of the Cape and are worth a look at
( hope this is not going to turn into a 12v thing now, after all it's not a road map )
-
Mainey I don’t know if this helps, but it is all I know.
I know the road from Normanton to Kowanyama, normally a reasonably good road. I know the locals go from Kowanyama to Pormpuraaw, but it is a seasonal road, I have never done this road so it is only on hear say.
I don’t know of a direct road to Aurukun from Pormpuraaw, although I have traveled from Yarraden, which is south of Coen, to Aurukun, they used to have a barge to go from the south side of the Archer River over to Aurukun, but this was some years ago, and the conditions might of changed.
I don’t think there is a road to Weipa from Aurukun, other than going back to the main road and heading north.
This map I think shows the roads I am thinking about.

Mainey I don’t know if this helps, but it is all I know.
Thank you,
Yes, however after traveling from the other side of the continent we want to see some more of the local area up there than just the track up to the Cape.
It's a long desolate drive for us even before we get there, so making it worthwhile is paramount ;D
-
:'( :'( :'(
I hate to say it but we are out for the trip.
Just started a new job in the mines and I can't book holidays until I have 12 months up.
To all that are going.....ENJOY.

We travelled from Pormpuraaw to Kowanyama back in July last year, fantastic drive but very slow due to really rough sections(75% of the track). But be warned, crossing the Mitchell River is not for the faint hearted. No markers, DEEP water, wide crossing and salt water crocs. But if you wait for the locals to drive across, you can follow them and it would be easy as.
