Bloody hell, those drivers were flung out all the time. How did they ever survive?

I don't think they did!
It would appear that luck was more important than engineering design or drivers skill...
Cheers

crud where is that discussion on OH&S, maybe some things improve with legislation. Mind you it blows me away how many got up and walked back to their cars????
-
How about the blokes standing in the middle of the track hiding behind poles dodging cars as they crashed....... Madness... ???
-
That will give you an idea what it's like when you come off a bike at speed, when racing >:D
Baz.

The banked circuit looks like Brooklands in England. Ive seen many images but no movies of this ever.
Classic stuff, well found.
-
yep but the bike doesnt often roll on you unless you high side real bad. blows me away to think of those metal coffins slamming the lid down on you that hard and you can still get free, with the bike you dont normally role 10 or 20 times whilst trapped.

Some nasty stuff. Nobody got injured/killed in their cars anyway........no one stayed in there.

I love the old footage of the old Aussie Red-X rallys of the 50/60's... some mad phuks there! havent seen it for a while though

At 1:35 - don't think he was wearing a seatbelt, as it looks like he ended the rollover with his head down under the dashboard...
2:10 - cameraman may have changed careers after that, if he survived
They sure took incredible risks, looks like they considered bailing out to be a safer alternative to staying with the ship!
