Smells better than WD 40? How can this be? Doesn't everyone use it for aftershave?

I guess it depends on what they are made from I'd say. Ours are aluminium, so we just hose them off and/or rub the dirt off with a bannister brush (dustpan variety) or a wet chux. Soapy water just sounds too fancy for camping.
I think you should be more concerned on how to keep those rubbery bottom bits attached ... we can't find 2 of ours ... makes the pole near useless as they tend to bury themselves ... so we keep a bit of flat timber to use under them if required.

thanks kit e just thought soapy water cause there covered in dried white powdery stuff dont know what it is and im also missin couple of bottoms but easly fixed with a stubby lid works great unless ya in the sand so i use a bit of ply as well
-
For the dry white powdery stuff on poles, try vinegar. It works on gal steel.

Will give that a try qlddsl :D

To keep the end caps on, put. a rivert through the side of them
