Title: Xmas ideas for the folks
Post by: MadAz on November 18, 2011, 09:42:01 PM
Hi all,

I am after some suggestions for Xmas gifts for the oldies.

I cant really think of anything, but will be getting them one of them wireless weather stations.

They live in Tassie, retired, and have travelled Oz extensively for over 2.5 years. They have a bus, fully converted with all the gooodies so dont think there is anything they need there.

They have a wicked vegie garden and fruit trees, couple of sheep, a goat and some chooks.

Thats about it really, oh and they also enjoy cooking and using there own produce.

any ideas? What are you lot asking for?

Cheers

Our family runs a KK system so that everyone receives one gift.  We put a top $ value on gifts - i.e. no more that $50 to be outlayed.  This means that all our "younger ones" who are busy with mortgages etc don't need to over extend at Christmas buying gifts for everyone in sundry.....   Then one (it changes each year) person circulates an email asking for 3 suggestions to assist "Santa" in providing the gift which will be what the recipient would actually desire/use/have need of.    On return of the info the KK does a draw and then sents each person a message detailing who they are KK for and the 3 helpful suggestions - then we get to choose which one we will purchase.
Works for our family and we all get something which we would appreciate.  We also have a lot of fun working out who our KK is.
Kids still get gifts from the aunts/uncles etc as we see fit...  and we still buy a small gift for the parents (additional to any KK they may receive)

Hope this helps.

While it might not be as flash as something you open up, I've always found the good ole Bunnings Vouchers e.g.$50 or  $100 did the trick presents at Christmas, at least it's not a gift they won't put on eBay because they didn't like it or have no use for.

I always found money vouchers like Bunnings or BCF to be a safe bet when it comes to those who are hard to buy for at Christmass.

Baz.

Lucky it wasn't a typo like KKK, I would have thought you were telling me Santa was a member of the Klu Klux Klan...

A fat guy in a white hood coming down the chimney ( scarey)..

This year we are giving our loved ones a gift for a community overseas. We are buying things like a goat for an African village, or honey bees, or a pig. There are many charities out there that cater for gifts like this, like Oxfam, heifer.org etc.

All 3 of my boys (4,7 and 12) have decided to recieve one less present from Santa, to gift a present to people in need. Mr 7 is gifting a mozzie net, and Mr 12 is gifting a flock of chicks.

I think it is a great idea.  My mother (who recently lost her father aged 92) whos Dad was a beekeeper, is getting a hive of bees. She will appreciatte this ...

Just some food for thought ...

Cheers Chippy :D

I'll be the wet blanket...

MadAz, from the sounds of their lifestyle, your oldies probably got everything they need/use already ;)
If you don't get to see them often, they'd probably appreciate you saving the money towards a trip to visit them :)
