Title: What would be your next move?
Post by: carinya on November 11, 2011, 12:07:03 AM
Sad story of a mate who got ripped off by ( you'll not believe it) a mechanic.
Old mate buys a used cruiser wagon to take his family on holidays.  All set, gets the nod from work to go during school holidays and does all the stuff you do to prep.  Puts the wagon in for a service before the road trip.  Had it a few months and all is well, service will have it humming.  Quoted about $200 for whatever jobs he wanted, left the phone number to call if anything pops up.  Goes to collect the thing and is presented with a bill for a bit over $400, no phone call.  In the process of sorting this mess out, the thing develops a miss, and the night before leaving the radiator springs a leak, don't know if he cooked it or not. Looks like some kind of tool mark on the radiator , right near the air con belt that was changed without approval and now just whistles around the pulley.  No going away for the kids, $300 in accommodation lost on cancellation and the wagon still to be sorted out.

He reckons he's on top of it but I want to know what a few swaggers would do.

First thing I would always do is take photos of the issues and then contact the mechanic to discuss.   I prefer to just rock up to their premise (as a disgruntled customer is never a good sign at their workshop) and discuss the matter there.  Stay calm and firm, then don't leave until you get it sorted.  Most that I have had some issue with are ok to rectify any issues.

Word of mouth in a local area doesn't do them any good either.

I agree with Apollo 100% its definetley not a good look to have a disgruntled customer in your workshop especialy when your trying to deal with other customers.Good Luck
