Title: Real Winners or Cheap Shot Advertising??
Post by: JCOJ on November 09, 2011, 04:10:54 PM
The Camper Trailer Australia Magazine Offroad Camper Of The Year has just been held and someone seems to think they are a winner even though the results are not supposed to be released until the publishing of the magazine as per JT's quote below.

http://www.australianoffroadcampers.com.au/

That logo, and the heading, 'implies' that they have won - even though there is no mention of this years awards anywhere on their site.  I would have thought that if the results were not to be released until published, the word 'nominated' or 'finalist' should be used if used the logo on their site until the final results were known.  Agree?

This year no one will know who the winners are until its published in Camper Trailer Australia...so guess we'll all find out together.

Cheers
JT

Hi,

It doesn't say they are the WINNER, but it might be misleading for potential customers of their product, thinking that they ARE the camper of the year.

Definitely says they were WINNERS last year, and you can't blame them at all for boasting about that!

In fact the more I look at it, the more it seems like IF you click the link, go to FB, and vote for you favourite picture, you'll win yourself an LED strip ... so I'm gonna go with ... they are advertising the latest competition in the CT World.

Just my Opinion.

I noticed that last year too. All the nominated entries were quick to put that logo on there advertising web sites. I think thats all it was, was the logo to say that they were nominated, not that they had actually won. I could be wrong though.

BWM did same when the X5 became 4wd of the year... the year the whole contest lost the 0.01% cred it had left.

Im not sure how you could take this as anything but bragging

maybe they meant to use this one

I would say that it is misleading as the average person looking at the site would conclude that they are the 2012 winner. It doesn't say nominee or that the photos are of the evaluation trip. We can only discern the difference having read some of the threads on this forum.

What does Carlisle have to say on the matter I wonder. ;D ;D

I'd prefer that AOR use the word 'Finalist' in their advertising - I do find that a little misleading.

Also, there is no 'one' winner. We broke this year's contest into price categories, with a hybrid class for those non-canvas campers. With one winner in each category, I figured we would be more honestly comparing apples to apples.

All in all, an awesome trip. And AOR will have to wait, like everyone else, to find out who won.
