Touch wood we don't get any round here in Adelaide, but keep safe everyone. I have the double barrel shovel beside the back door just in case!
I find them absolutely fascinating but would muddy my shorts in an instant if I ever came across ones. I actually like to watch You Tube videos on smakes, just to get an idea of how they behave and what I could expect from different species.
Terrible news for the family involved. Interesting that it bit her several times too....

Wow! That would freak me out. I assume wearing boots and long pants is mandatory. I heard the fangs of many snakes including browns are too small to pierce good boots and denim etc. Daily!!! OMG

I found this bloke about 10 feet from my back door.

My heart nearly stopped the day I watched a really dirty 5 foot brown wind its way between my 5 year old sons legs in the yard. I was too far away to get there, looked up and there they were together. We live 5 mins from the hospital but the skinny little bugger wouldn't have made it there. After seeing all the shows on TV he remembered to stay still. Bugger me if he didn't look down, see the snake at his feet, and he just froze until it passed. I called him back anad then we all went to pieces. Hope that never happens again.

SWMBO nearly stepped on one while walking around Valley Lake [Mt Gambia] a few weeks ago, we certainly kept a very close eye out after that!
