If anyone could help us out on where you can buy a camping trailer queen size mattress, it would be awesome.
Or, alternatively, if you recommend another mattress, I'll have a look at that also.
At the moment, we have a thin foam mattress, which is pretty ordinary, and any good advice is welcome.
Thanks.

Im sure its been asked but why cant you use a normal queen size matress? im sure you could get a real good queen size for 600 locally?

Any good? I heard they didn't breath very well, and mightn't be too good in Qld sumemr conditions under canvas. Something about permeability of the outer material..?
Would be keen to hear what you think. Can't go wrong for that $$$ I would have thought.

I got ours from super amart, cost a couple of hundred and a lot better sleep than the old foam mattress.
Figured for the cost you cant go wrong

+1 for Bed's direct. We bought a king-sized low-profile from them and were very happy with service, product and price.

made to measure mattresses at redcliffe better than the home bed

The mattress in our CT was an Ikea mattress. We liked it so much we swapped it with the one on our bed at home. So now we use it everyday. I never had any probs with it under canvas. If it was a problem tho,I'd just put a wool underlay over it.

Used some of this info to start looking at replacing our foam mattress so I thought I'd post up some findings to keep youze up to date.
Went to Makin Mattresses (Canberra) and they were pretty informative and knew what we were talking about. They basically make you a low profile inner-spring mattress by adding $50 to the price of the mattress you like in the store. We looked at the basic range from $250 to $499 and the guy said the model with the leaf pattern ($399 I think) is popular for this purpose (though we're going on the road for a year and liked the firm $499 one, of course >:().
They basically give you a mattress with half the spring height so that the feel of the mattress is otherwise the same, including double sided so you can turn it over. Measures 170mm (just under 7 inches). Takes a few weeks to make it up.
Heard Sealy make low profile mattresses so we to Snooze but they had no real idea what we were talking about and had to make a few phone calls....
Waiting on a quote from 'made to measure mattresses' to compare - will post their quote here once I get it and let you know who we go with.
It's not as hard as I thought it would be to get a low profile mattress - thanks to all for the past info!

Our made to measure mattress is 6" thick, only one sided so you can't flip it over and reasonably firm and very light. We put a foam egg crate overlay on it and its comfy as. At the moment we are house sitting and using our mattress on the bed cause the normal one is way too soft. We love ours! I think AORC use made to measure mattresses in there campers as standard now.

OK so maybe it is a bit harder to get an inner spring mattress than I thought. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE EXACT HEIGHT MEASUREMENT IF YOU BUY A MATTRESS FROM SOMEONE THAT DOESN'T MAKE CAMPER/CARAVAN MATTRESSES ALL THE TIME!!
So we got a quote from Made-To-Measure, quoting between $400 for their Premium Queen size to $550 for their Superior. They come in single sided or double sided format, with the single sided 150mm high (180mm on the Superior) or 190mm high for the double sided (230mm on the Superior).
It is $100 freight to Canberra, so price wise their Deluxe at $430 + freight, middle of the range, is about the same as Makin Mattress's offer. After a bit of umming and ah'ing we decided that we'd prefer double sided and as Makin Mattresses told us their (double sided) mattress is 170mm, that would be better than M-T-M's. We were also more comfortable having tried the Makin Mattresses product, whereas we hadn't tried out the M-T-M one, so that clinched it for us.
Went back to Makin this weekend to settle the purchase. Luckily we spoke to someone this time that had a bit more knowledge than the salesman we spoke to first time, because we've just avoided making a big mistake. Here's how:
So we were told previously their 'low profile mattress comes in at 170mm high - at the top of our range. We looked at 4 mattresses from the hotel/motal (yeugh!!) to something more exxy (can't remember the name, but it's $499). Having settled on the most exxy one as yours truly needs to be careful with his crook back, we went back yesterday to order. Luckily I mentioned something about 170mm height and the manager was there. He said that only the hotel/motel mattress comes out at 170mm. The one we were looking at wouldn't get below 200mm! Obviously the previous sales guy had assumed all the mattresses come up the same height when the springs are cut down, but obviously there's more padding on the more exxy mattresses. So only having the hotel/motel model available at a low enough height for us we decided to call it a day. A lucky, $550 escape.
If you go to Makin, and they do have an excellent product and can help us campers, just make sure you get them to find the exact height measurements of the mattress from their book!
So we just made a call to Paul at M-T-M and ordered their Deluxe single sided queen, and are very happy with his advice so far.....

Ikea sell a low profile innerspring mattresses we have one on our camper and could not be happier. ;D Certainly better than the old foam one.
-
We got our inner spring mattress from Tambo when we ordered our camper. Was around the $200-$250 mark from memory. I think they have them at their factory all the time, worth a phone call maybe...
-
Got one from the local bed shop == bed plus i think 200mm inner spring $240 ish fits perfect and had a great night sleep on it

Our AORC Odyssey Export Signature came with a single-sided innerspring mattress from Made To Measure - had it for four and a half years now and still as compfrotable as when we first got it.
