I am contemplating buying the new Jayco Swift OB. What do you think about the ability of Jayco off road? I am looking at something that will survive the corner country and Gibb River Rd for example. Do they hold together well? Was keen on an off road CT and saw these at Leisurefest and SWMBO has taken a fancy to them.

Hi Paul,
we just took our Outback Eagle from Sydney - Bourke - Cameron Corner - Strezlecki Track, Oodnadatt Track - Flinders Ranges - White Cliffs - Sydney, She went beautifully, with only two minor issues, hand water pump lost pressure and a screw came lose on the slide out bed track. We were pleasantly surprised as some of the roads, particularly the road from Cameron Corner to Strezlecki was brutal.

Paul, Dragged my outback Eagle from Albany WA to Darwin and a few places in between including the Gibb River road with only a few very minor issues. However, prior to going anywhere I went thru it with the proverbial fine tooth comb and sorted out many factory inbuilt faults, and did a few mods in anticipation of where I was going to take it. The limiting factors IMO are the width and wheel track that rules out narrow winding tracks and soft sand for me. Where you take it and how it survives has got a lot to do with driving style. For the price very comfortable, especially if it rains and the trouble and strife loves it.

Hey Paul,we took our jayco flamingo around Oz twice, roads and traks that included the Crebb track,the Reynolds River track and Gibb River rd .The only problems we encounted were soft sand due to the extra wide jaco axles.Have to agree Jayco make a great product. :cup: :cup: :cup:

Not to be the fun police but I would get underneath and have a good look at both. The Swift is made to a price and that means less metal. If it was me I'd want to know what the chassis and structural differences are.

Thanks D4D. Will make sure I check out down under. Do you know anything about them I should be wary of?

If you're going to do the Gibb for example you'll want a good chassis and suspension/axle. I would compare the differences with the Swift and say the Hawk.

Paul, I Know nothing about the Swift but the the outback Eagle, Hawk, etc have a very substantial chassis and robust running gear. Take a visual underneath as suggested and you will soon work it out.

Will get in contact with Jayco today and let you all know.....I think it has the potential to be a popular little unit if the build is robust enough.
