Title: Electric brakes and Anderson plug?
Post by: Sicilianmama on October 24, 2011, 11:39:56 AM
So we have ordered our camper and I am needing to put the electric brake wiring stuff and Anderson plug stuff on our rodeo, the man at Brisbane camper land said they doit when we pick up camper at a charge, but I'm wondering if we should get it done before hand and if the cost would be cheaper?

Who would you get to do it and what would we be looking at cost wise?

why not have a go installing them yourself
there is heaps of valuable info on this site on how to go about it
did mine the weekend, a few hours later and all done and a good feeling when you do it yourself

If you are not confident at diy perhaps another swagger local may be able to give you a hand. That way you could also gain the knowlege of how and where the systems are run.

What is the CT supplier Quoting for the Job?
Does the Anderson Plug connection include a battery isolator inthe vehicle(preferable)?
What type of brake controller will they install?

Id imagine quotes for the whole lot could run to anywhere to between $600 to $800 with a good battery isolator and controller.

Oh gosh, there would be no way I could do anything like that myself! After talking to Camperland the costif the Anderson plug is already included and it's $395 for them to do brakes. I rang around and all the other quotes I got was more expensive! So I think I'll be happy to get themto do it :)

just make sure your happy with where they want to position the brake controller, if you want it in a different position then the price could change

Are you supplying the brake controller or are you supplying it as you can probably source it a lot cheaper than they charge to supply it?

you will have a very sore bottom if you do it that way.
Ebay for controller, plugs, wire the works.. or from sellers on here in the showroom section.

then get it fitted up if you dont have any mates or other swaggers in your area to help you out...

You may also want to get an isolator fitted on the same circuit as your Anderson Plug, especially if you only have the one battery under the hood on your fourby

Re the buy on eBay etc concpet.. I was quoted $395 to supply and install a Tekonsha P3 or $345 for  a P2, and i ended up buying the P2 from an autoelec for $155 DELIVERED and then did the rest myself. Now I get that mybe you dont feel like you want to do the job yourself, but you get the idea that the local Caravan place that quoted $345 was essentially charging me $190 to install it. when we started talking about that I didnt want it under my left knee the price started to escalate rapidly. Seems $95 an hour was the going rate!! I'm in the wrong business!!

Make you're getting a reputable brand of controller, one that you are happy with or have researched and are happy with, not just the brand the autospark has a "special" on. NOt all brake controllers are the same!!

Good Luck

I just purchased the Primus Iq for our outback swan from ebay. $150ish got me the controller plus a second mounting bracket and pigtail harness so i can swap the controller between the pathfinder or the company car depending on where we are going and if I want to pay for fuek or the boss is kicking in!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D most auto sparkies were charging $160+ just for the controller plus fitting.
