Just wondered if anyone has any experience with these self inflating mats. We want to get a couple so we can leave our trailer at home and just take the 4wd with us. Kids no longer want to go camping but we do so now we can travel lighter. We had a look today at the king singles made by Roman, 10 inch, also Outdoor Connection 10 inch, and Oztrail 10 inch oh and Diamantina. Liked the comfort of the Roman the best but of course its the most expensive. The outdoor connection was next best but not sure of the reliability of it. Its a squarer mat with the seams at the top and bottom rather than in the middle. What would you buy and why?

Oops I mean 10cm.

I have 2 of the thermarest 4wd mats, they're ace. Why not buy a couple of swags?

Then buy em.. if you like them, and they are what you want why go for second best, specially when sleepin'....

Another vote for the Thermarests, family of 5 and we all use them..... rate them highly!

I sleep on my side and can't handle those thin thermarest things. However, I do have a spinifex 4WD mat that is plush - it rates nearly as well as my mattress at home. Well worth the $$ and the space to get a good nights rest (and even a sleep in).
We have a double one and you need two people to roll it up.

As an Outdoor Ed teacher in a previous life, I slept on every kind of self inflating mattress there was until I found one I liked.
Exped is the best for comfort and quality - they are the Bentley of self inflating mattresses. They are not cheap - but neither are Bentley's, and there is a reason for that!
Here is the google search results for them: http://www.google.com.au/#sclient=psy-ab&hl=en&source=hp&q=exped+self+inflating+mattress&pbx=1&oq=exped+se&aq=1&aqi=g2g-v2&aql=1&gs_sm=c&gs_upl=336l3969l0l7383l7l7l0l0l0l0l405l2473l2-1.5.1l7l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=b7e5bb913cb3de15&biw=1920&bih=963

Hey Mogodbeer,
We've got 2 of the Oztrail 4" King Singles. We found that 2 x singles were easier to roll up than 1 x double, and easier to store. Have had them for a few years now, and love them. Best night's sleep I've ever had on the ground ;D.
One of them has a slow leak in it now, so that over the course of 3 nights it starts to lose it's plushness. I'm guessing we've put a pin-hole in it somewhere, or it's leaking around a seam (which is what I think has happened). I've not been bothered to borrow someone's swimming pool to find out where the leak is yet - it's not bad so we're just living with it. It's got the seams along the middle of the sides, for better or for worse.
Whichever you go with, I think you'll be happy.
Good luck!
Matto :)

I've also had my eye on a Big Agnes (http://www.bigagnes.com/Products/Detail/Pad/DiversionInsulatedAirCoreRecycled) one for a while.
They get good reviews, has anyone ever tried them?

Maybe you're thinking of the light weight bush walking style, the thermarests I have are not thin.
