Last week I noticed that our cast iron frying pan has developed a crack in it :'(
what are the usual causes of cast iron cookware cracking ??? (It had not been dropped that I am aware of)
-
Ummm,,,getting clobbered with it, by SWMBO?,,,, :D

It may have had a flaw in it from manufacture that has just shown up now but a rapid temperature change such as dunking the pan in cold water while it is still very hot can cause a fracture in cast iron.

Hey Bubba,
Sorry to hear that. Where does the frypan live when it's being transported? My money is on it copping a hit from somewhere. Cast iron is strong, but brittle. They need to be packed somewhere tight where it can't vibrate/get hit by another saucepan/shake around/etc.
Otherwise all I can think of is what Robbo's already mentioned, thermal shock.
Have you been competing in the recent Australian Safari? Getting a bit of air-time in the camper?? ;D ;D ;D
Thanks,
Matto :)

Hi Matto
It lives in the tailgate kitchen and doesn't have much room to move when travelling, I was originally guessing thermal shock may be the culprit but wasn't sure ???
