I'm looking at getting a webber or a Coleman grill for Xmas and just wanted to see what other people have and what made u get it over the other . I want to use it as a BBQ or cook a roast on it .
Can either be used as to boil water ?

Not familiar with the Coleman but very happy with our Baby Q. I'm sure one could boil water but it wouldn't be that efficient.

Ya can't go past the Weber.
We have a WeberQ 220, bought it for the camper and like it so much we would use it at least a 2 to 3 times a week at home.
I have boiled water on ours but like topndr mentioned it was not real efficient.
I use a Gas Mate canister type burner for road side stop cups of coffee and tea.
Go the WeberQ you won't regret it.

Gday, yeah i have a Weber and a good mate of mine has a Coleman road trip grill. he purchased the attachment separately to take a kettle and it seems to work well. however you cant to roasts in it. personally i would go a Weber Q.

G'Day Ben. We have the Coleman Road Trip and use it extensively when camping. We cook outside the camper all the time with it, boil water, cook curries, BBQ. We looked at the Webers but couldn't really see the benefit of being able to roast something. You're camping after all, eating camp food. The Coleman is easy to clean and can run off the cartridges or a gas bottle. Would recommend.

Going to buy a Weber tomorrow, was going to wait for christmas but they are on special down the road so now is a good a time as any.
Looking at the new q100e but might go the 200, 100 looks a bit small.

For bugga all more I would go for either the Q120 or the Q220. Same as the 100 and 200 but with a higher lid (good for large roasts) and a temp gauge.

The advert called them Q100e but has the higher lid and gauge and only $10.00 more than 100 and 200.
I will see what the difference is tomorrow to the 120/220 but I think they could be the 1 and same

I also vote the baby Q..... apart from the great results you get I can personally vouch for their after sales support.....
I had a problem where the plastic legs melted due to a combination of having turned it onto high to warm up and being distracted and forgotten about whilst at the same time having a solid pizza stone sitting on the grill with lid closed..... the effect was to reflect all the heat down to the bottom and melting the legs.
A call to Weber (2nd year into a 5 year warranty).... was told there was no service agent here and was i happy to replace them myself as it is quite straight forward (the local bbq galore guys had already offered to make the repairs if they sent the parts).... not a problem I say so the legs were promptly dispatched via courier. During the replacement I had problems as the plastic had melted over the bolts and had to force it off and managed to break a metal piece off the gas connecter in the process. Another call to Weber.... said part dispatched that day by courier and received the next, complete with new gas hose and regulator.
Can't remember the last time I had such good after sales support.

Yep, another vote for the weber.
I've got an adapter with a single burner straight from the bottle for boiling water and anything else I cant use the weber or fire for.

The 120/220 has been dis continued. The only difference between them and the 100e is the side wings (bench space) which can be purchased for $50 (babyQ)

Has anyone cooked pizza in the weberQ using a pizza stone.

We do it all the time. The pizzas come out awesome. Just leave your stone in all the time to keep hot, and slide the pizzas on and off.
There's no need to use a Weber pizza stone. That could be the gimmick part. Any old pizza stone will do.

For sure. It's a great way to eat. Get all the kids to make their own pizzas and just slide them on and graze. ;) Keeps them entertained as well.

I faced this dilemma only recently and I went the Weber. I could not locate a substantive alternative...
I ended up with a poorman's Weber (a 200), as I couldn't seem to locate a 220 anywhere. Problem solved, I purchased a bbq temp gauge off eBay for $3 and fitted (it is now a Weber Q215). Cooked two roasts in it to perfection...the peoples are right...They are a fantastic bbq and I am glad I purchased one...
I cannot comment on the Coleman as I haven't used one...I have seen one and I think the Weber supersedes it....

Um Churn is not the word I would use. They take 15min to cook and you can do 1 at a time on the BabyQ (Don't know about the 200) so it takes way less time to eat than to cook.
We make the dough from scratch which takes about 5 min but then have to let it sit for 20-30 min to rise. We are going to try premade bases this weekend from woollies.

We bought the Weber Family Q about 4 weeks ago and have cooked all sorts of meats, including roasts. We absolutely love it! ;D
Cooks to perfection, every time. Still getting use to the cooking times for roasts, but have just bought a cooking thermometer and will try that. We love our salmon fillets and boy, it does them perfectly. :cheers:
We were originally worried about the price of the Webers, but now we have no regrets at all. Got to be the best BBQ on the market! It is also so efficient and uses very little gas. Re pizza stones, just get a large floor tile, works exactly the same and a lot cheaper. 8)

true to a point - just check the size. My pizza stone was a fraction too big and the lid wouldn't close - bought a slightly smaller one (not webber) which is perfect.

love our baby Q so much when doing a roast at home we don't use the oven or the big BBQ........only the Q.
Our baby Q is big enough to pump out enough snags for 4 people and we are all "big boned"
never seen a coleman being used so can't comment

There is no contest. I have had Coleman style bbqs for camping for years and have just recently purchased the Webber 220. It took a lot to convince hubby to get one - he was very anti webber style bbqs. But after cooking on one for the last 2 months we would never go back from the Webber.
We love it so much that we are going to purchase a Family Q for home when we get back. And I will NEVER cook another roast in the oven at home again - the Webber does the best roasts and no mess!
But definitely get the one with the temp guage - I don't know how we would use it without one.

I have just gone and had a look at them, a big size difference between the 100 and the 200. Will go back next week after the credit card rolls over so have time to work out what size to go for. They had them at a good price as well, $299 for the 100 with gauge and $399 for the 200 with gauge which is the best price that I have seen around here

We purchased the Beefeater Sportsgrill. IMHO much better than the weber for us as we like cooking our food rather than closing the lid and waiting.
We camp with Weber Q's all the time and honestly can't see much difference. Its all how you cook it!!

We just got a WebberQ200, best bbq ever!!! done a roast chicken best roast I have ever had. Put in on low heat for 2 hours

Can you roast a chicken or leg of lamb in the baby Q?

Yes I have...but it does lack the height in the lid for cooking larger chooks and meats, that is something I keep in mind when I'm buying at the supermarket/butcher...if I was buying a Weber again I'd go for the models with the higher lid and the built in gauge.

We have the Q220 which is the middle sized webber with the high lid. We have done roast Chook, big leg of lamb, big roast pork (with the best crackle!). And all with heaps of veggies (potato and pumpkin) around it! And all are cooked to perfection. You would think I had shares in the company, but we are travelling and have lived off our webber for the last 2 months. We love it!

Did our first roast in our Baby Q a couple of days ago and it worked great. Have the model with the high lid so it will take the roast. Bought a cheap steel roasting dish and cut it down the corners of it to fit the Baby Q and this allows the heat to circulate better and not burn the bottom of the roast. Use a low temp 150c or below and cook slowly. Haven't used the Coleman so can't comment on them.

I have a new weber Q220 and I love it. I have cooked cakes, roasts and just usual BBQ type stuff on it and I have not had one problem. :cheers:

I bought the Webber Q 100 with the high lid for roasts and BBQ chooks its nice and small for the camper and dose it all

We have used the coleman road trip camping for the last 8 years never had any problems, its never going to compete with the webber Q because its not that style, its a really a two burner stove with grill plate and frying plate we added the stove top to boil the billy never missed a beat, for roasts we have a cobb lovely!!!,

I thought the idea of the stone is that once it's heated up it draws the moisture out of the base to make nice and crispy. With the pizza not directly on the tray, I would think this would stop happening some what?!?

I purchased the Weber pizza stone on the weekend and give it a run last night for tea.
Warmed up the weber for 20mins and cooked the pizza for another 20 mins, it turned out perfect.
I used the pizza tray to prepare the pizza and then placed the tray on top of the stone.
Nice crispy base.
A big thumbs up for the weber pizza stone at our place. :cup:

The heat from the stone penetrates through the tray quiet easily :cheers: and makes life a lot easier pre making the pizza On the tray. YOu would need a large paddle to make it on first and then try and slide it on as well as flouring the stone so the pizza won't stick to it . Just makes life a lot easier. The trick is to preheat the stone properly first as Glenn said :cheers:

Very good thread - was thinking along same lines myself.
My mind had eventually rested on the weber Q120 (or 100E as sometimes refered to) as it has the higher lid so can cook a family size roast no problems.
add the flat plate and I think it's an awesome unit.
The thing I did not like about the other designs was the fat tray set- up - simply too messy and relies on perfectly level surface - weber drain is very clever thinking.
