Title: FNQ members Christmas get together
Post by: duggie on September 08, 2011, 09:55:58 PM
Hi everyone, I know that is only early September, but time move at a very fast rate. I thought that I would throw the idea out there for a Christmas get together somewhere, with or without camptrailers. Just food for thought. Could be fun and a chance for a lot of Myswag people to get to know each other and put faces to names. I am not going to sudjest a venue as yet but I am wide open to ideas from those who are interested. Cheers duggie

A bloody great idea but I won't be able to make (depends on dates). I'm due back on the 25th Nov and hope to be heading south for 6 week holiday. We will be in Hervey Bay for most of it but have booked into Dillinger Village on Fraser Island from the 16th to the 22nd of December. Also be at 1770 just after new years....Great idea though.......Would love to catch up for a coldie.....

Duggie, love to mate, but we leave in 2 weeks and to be honest, we don't even know where we will be at xmas time ???.   Safe to say it will be miles from here....somewhere in NSW would be a fair bet.
Back here mid Jan.
Have a good one anyway while I have whatever horsep*ss beer they drink down in cockroach land.

Hi Duggie,

Great idea, but we'll probably be out unfortunately. If all goes to plan, we should be very sleep-deprived with a 4 week old bub come Christmas day.  ;D Whilst I'm keen to get the little one out camping, one month is probably a bit too soon...

Also be at 1770 just after new years....

I heard you were going away again TB. Glad to hear you'll be back by Christmas.

When we were down that way last time, I've got to admit, I much preferred the Agnes Waters caravan park (http://agneswaterfirstpoint.com.au/) to the campground at 1770. We didn't stay at the 1770 one, but had tried to get there as our preference and they were fully booked. When we drove past, they had the campers packed in like sardines, guy wires crossing over, things like that. Meanwhile we didn't have any neighbours on one side, and a view straight down over the beach and the surf. Our initial plan was to camp up in Eurimbula NP, but no one could tell us what condition the park was in, after all the flooding and storms in SEQ the weeks prior. We drove through there, and the sites were nice, but you need to be fairly self-sufficient as you'd expect - and probably not the greatest spot for kidlets (not much to do). Where-ever you end up, it's all good down that way.

Thanks!
Matto :)

A meal somewhere will suit just as well...

Hi Bill & Morag,
All I am doing is thowing the idea out there . As a group we could either get together at a agreed eating place that suites everyone, go on a boat cruise, spend the night at a secluded island or go camping. That is what I ment by with camp trailer or without trailer.
I am open to all ideas and have no set date as yet. When I work out my roster I will post the weeks that I am not working up on this forum and if those dates suit others then a function/meeting place can be agreed upon.

If we are camping somewhere perhaps Matto could bring his family out for a day trip :)

C'mon guys and girls, how about a hand here. A christmas get together somewhere between Cairns and Townsville so that the FNQ Myswagers can get in a group and enjoy each others company. Mission Beach, Bingil Bay area is what I am thinking.

Don't be scared taking the little one. Keira was 3 weeks old when we trekked from Canberra to Mackay with no problems.......

Great Idea, a catch up would be good, a meal or camping or even a day trip to one of the beaches down that way.
We are booked to do the Rollingstone thing again this year from boxing day to 2nd or 3rd of the new year.
So if anyone is heading that way that option is there as well.
Anyhow keep us in the loop and we'll be there.

Hi Bill and everyone else,
Mission Beach is only a thought, it would be great to have a get together where all the FNQ members do not have to travel too far. As a group there members from Townsville area, Cairns area, Mareeba and the Tablelands, so I was thinking that one of the beach areas may be suited. I am not stating where to go, please help me out with ideas.
I admit that camping out in the bush is in my oppion better than camping on the beach, but for this occasion the beach area may be more suited.
Some Myswag members may only want to do a day trip for the Xmas get together where as others will/may take their camp trailer.

As for when, I have gone through my roster and for me to attend this get together I will be on days off on the fowling week ends in November and December.

Fri-11/11/11 to Mon-14/11/11
Fri-25/11/11 to Mon-28/11/11
Fri-09/12/11 to Mon-12/11 11

Hi Teabag and any interested others, looks like no interest from our southern cousins so the coast camp may change. I might look at doing a weekend trip out to Stannery Hills, about 1 hours drive from Herberton or 2.5 hours drive from the Cairns area. Good for redclaw and black bream with a lunch drive to Irvinbank pub for saturday myswag christmas get together counter lunch.               Fri-25/11/11 to Mon-28/11/11 is good for me so I might lock that date in as final .

Hi,
Those dates for the trip will work with my roster at the moment. So i will keep an eye on this post and see what happens. Would be good to get out and meet other FNQ members. Haven't heard of this spot either so another new camp is always good. Will confirm closer to the time.

Depending on dates and of course work, and SWMBO and location we might come up.

I have been keeping an eye on this since its 1st post, I thought I had better show interest before you all thought that those from NQ were not interested.

Cheers Rod.... 8)

Just bought a new (2008) TRKABT Safari  ;D - done two short shake out trips Cowly Beach and Tinaroo - Like to put our names in, hoping it's over Christmas Day so we can tell the rellies (not rellebelle) that we won't be home.  ;)

X 6 with 5 kayaks and a blowup boat filled with some keen fishermen. :P

Just had some work done to hinge the bedframe on the Coolabah Camper and now about to put some electrics in and hopefully sell it.

6 bods in a 7 foot tent seems like a lifetime ago after the two trips in the Trackabout.
It'll be good to catch up with the crowd from Reedy Brook Trip and meet some other faces.

Hi guys and girls,
I am looking forward to going back to work tomorrow so that I can have a rest. Boy have I done some miles on my days off trying to put something together.

Firstly:  Stannery Hills dam, bloody great area for a myswag get together, plenty of camping room, heaps of water full of Bream and red claw. Lunch one day at the Irvinbank pub with those who want a visit to the Irvinbank Histrocial museum. Sounds bloody great, big problem, the country is so dry and fires are everywhere the land holders will not allow anyone to camp there unless it rains.

Next idea : Off to Collins Weir, Great spot, again bream , redclaw, boating, swimming and beer. Problem, since I was last there, over 20 years ago, the land holders have fenced the best camping spot off. No bloody room for a myswag do.

Brain into gear : Koombaloomba Dam, 37 clicks from Ravenshoe, the last 16 clicks well formed dirt road. On arrival the water level is low but as yet no restrictions on boats or engine size. Massive flat area for setting up the camp trailer, fair amount of room under shady trees and a huge open area for those others.
Free camping with a long drop toilet, probley good idea to bring your own Shitter. Very short walk/drive to the waters edge, with the option of bringing boats/kyaks and enjoying the lake for what it is. Barra, Bream and red claw all all there. Waters edge is a little far to be able to pump up water for the camping area but again only short walk/drive.

There is still the option of the group going into Ravenshoe for a Christmas meal at one of the fine PUBS in the town, or a camp cook up with every one throwing in a meal. Not my choice as this can be sorted out later.
Fire wood is not availaible on site, but I am more than preparied to drag me camp trailer out there with me old 73 G60 tray back nissan loaded to the brim with fire wood.

There is an old steam train in Ravenshoe that does a weekly trip down the rail line and return on Sunday afternoon, Not sure what cost or what is supplied but I will check this out if anyone shows interest.

As this will be a Christmas do, fairy lights around the camp and trailers would be a nice touch, dont be shy as I wont be.

So OK what do you all reckon. A Christmas get together at Koombalooma Dam, Friday the 25 th Nov through to Monday the 28th Nov.

Bring Grog, bait ,food, vabbie pots, more grog and oh yea your faimly.

Koombaloomba is probably very nice, right now while its so dry. Given thats its situated behind tully, in the rainforest, i,d advise those who would go to be prepared for a possible wet xmas. That shouldn,t stop any well set up swagger from going there, tho'. I,m merely mentioning it as a possibility to be prepared for. It still sounds like the best place to get to.

Thanks, Duggie, for doing the spotter trips.

Sorry have been off line last night, went to meeting in Cairns and made it home this time.

Sounds good duggie, even though we are comitted to another trip that weekend.  We had anticipated going to Stannery Hills Next Fortnight but are well aware of the Fires/Landowners concerns also. Koombooloomba sounds great.

Savanahkelpy you bring up a good point it is always best to be prepared for the murphys invasion. cheers rellbell

I like the idea of Woodleigh Station it has less chance of rain than Koombaloomba. Hate rain, hate it, hate it.
Sorry, Atherton has it's downside. :-[
Koombaloomba is a long way to get down to the water at the moment - which means dad will have to carry kayaks down to the water and back every day. Like water hate work.... "thinking" need to build trolley so kids can do work. 8)
Got to find some more creek/river/station camping spots. ???

Only just found this post, looks like I'll be heading to Rollingstone in the new year. Booked in today 1 - 4 for some relax time on the beach and to test out the new camper that we are looking at getting.

Hey Ranger,
The better half and I will be just up the road at Taylor's Beach from the 27/12-2/01, so never know may cross paths.

Had planned Rollingstone again this year but have had a slight mix up with management and told them to nice and politely find the place the sun don't shine.

Anyhow hope all goes well with the camper and will give you a yell when we venture past.
Merry Xmas and

Hi Bill,
if you mean Taylor's, I think he still has room and you can take the four legged family members here too.

That was the argument with the other spot, after taking our booking and deposit for a pet friendly site way back in August they decided to change their minds in October. >:( Was not happy, and found the crew at Taylor's so good to deal with ;D.

Not as close to the waters edge but sounds great. Let us know how you go.
