Call it research

I call it ... rubbish.

The producers of this show like to say that their show covers current and relevant topics ... and yet couldn't be bothered to research correct winching techniques?

Shame, shame, shame Channel Seven.

... although, it is Home and Away not the encyclopedia of winching.

Yep, I got sucked into watching the boof head Aussie version of Top gear. I thought hooning up narrow bush tracks, and doing jumps over erosion humps with the Amorok was bad enough. But snatching open a locked farm gate with one of these guys standing next to the gate is just plain wrong. I realize it's all set up. But it was not funny, and just a bad look.

Yes it was set up for sure with a thin bit of chain that you could break with your hands. Plus it & the lock still had a shine on them . . . . . . .

Still a bad look & the way they drove down those tracks they are lucky to have backs left. . . .

The onscreen chemistry just works; Jerry, Kramer and George - it's really great. They do the American accent so well for a show shot on Palm Beach NSW.

OK  I'll admit to seeing that on H & A,  yep he stepped over cable, wasn't wearing gloves he also wrapped the cable around the tree and hooked it back on itself, no tree trunk protector, OK he was about to drop the poor 80 series 50mtr to it's dead, so he was a bit rushed.

Missus had recorded it and I'm going out on a limb and saying it was all safe, if you listen to the sound of the winch motor it wasn't under load.....

I totally concur with the above opinion ... I don't even think it was real rain ... or a real cliff ... but that bloke operating the winch ... Now That's Real (nice) ... and he Was in a tad of a hurry ... he had 30 seconds to get that 4by unstuck and back to the hospital ... and he also borrowed it from some drug selling (but real nice looking) River Boys who are more interesting in thumping each other than purchasing tree truck protectors ... I mean ... do drug sellers actually have 4wd's with all the kit? ... I thought they'd be more into those low to the ground fastish kinda cars ... oh and don't forget that bloke he saved was bleeding to death from a wound that 2 bandaids could have covered if Alf didn't take off in the SES vehicle that had the bandaids ...

Kit_e   ;D

I treat all winch cables once spooled out and connected to the bogged vehicle as "live". Therefore once connected NEVER step over the cable, whether under load or not. Accidents do happen! And winches (like snatch straps) can be VERY unforgiving ...  I am aware this is a soapy and not a informative documentary, however I still think it is silly to have shown it ...

Cheers Chippy :D

I believe in an upcoming episode Alf gets a CT and starts to wire it up with ebay solar panels and 2.5mm domestic electrical cable and DC-DC charger. Also he installs a lead acid car battery in the back of his wagon next to the gas 9kg bottle for his 3 way fridge. He then goes camping in a NP with his dog and pulls out the chainsaw to cut up firewood to cook a roast Koala in the camp oven during a total fire ban whilst watching Neighbours on his TV being run by the generator.
