Title: Uniform traffic ticket (Virus)
Post by: Hairs on August 20, 2011, 08:53:35 AM
I forgot to post this up the other day.
An email doing the rounds ATM is the 'Uniform traffic ticket'.
The Attachment carries a VIRUS.
Snopes (http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/trafficticket.asp)
I guess some would open it without a second thought, especially those that travel through speed cameras constantly.
I run all my email accounts through Gmail, which has picked up at lest 4 of these a day over the last few days.
Just a heads up, please don't open the attachment.
, hope you have a great weekend & safe travels.

Surely nobody would believe you could get a traffic ticket by email? Has common sense ceased to exist?
Cheers, Tony

Unfortunatley, I'd believe some people must fall for it, for the scamers to try it.
Just like the Nigerian Scam, The Computer tech guy saying you have viruses on your machine and a host of others.
Now hopefully, with word of mouth, and keeping others informed of these things it is harder for them to rip people off.
I reckon everyone with a computer should book mark Snoops and check it out every now and then, I might save some pain & embarrassment at the lest.
I hate seeing people getting ripped off.

PS, while I was replying, I just received another one.

I've been getting them too. However I have not been in New York to get a traffic ticket and it has been 18 months since I was in the states. Sometimes these make me laugh.

Hmm, so people don't read a lot of what they get in the mail even. Ya know, they only see what they want to see.
A lot of us are a wake up to these things, but some of our older friends aren't. It gets under my skin when they get ripped off. They take a lot of things at face value.
