Hi all. New to this forum and cmaper trailers so firstly hi to all. Secondly, my wife and I are looking at purchasing a new CT but don't have room at home for storage. Is it common for CT's to be stored in lock ups and if so what sort of rates are common? I am in Adelaide metro area. Would appreciate any comments. Cheers.

Hi and Welcome. I'd be ringing the lockup places (http://www.google.com.au/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1G1TSAU_ENAU368&=&q=lock+up+storage+adelaide&oq=lock+up+storage+adelaide&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=1086l5214l0l5460l24l20l0l9l9l0l345l2068l2-4.3l7) personally. Also, check this is okay with your insurer.

Tanks for that. Would that normally cause an issue in your experience?

There are places that cater for caravan and boat storage, usually charge differant rate's based on the level of security you require, you should find something listed in the phone book.

I think theres a place in Bayswater Vic that does it basically a paddock, and I heard they charge diamonds for it... they do boats and everything, so might help you with a search.
I'd also start with the insurance company, might save you a lot of foot work.
http://www.kss.com.au/ these kinda places aint cheap.

I know that your household furniture stored offsite (ie not in a house) can only be stored for 2 months before larger premiums are charged and only for 12 months before they can no longer be insured under a household policy ... just an example ... and not all insurers are the same. Check with your insurer for any "fine print" in regards to your CT (and any contents you choose to insure of course) ... they may have restrictions on where it can be stored and for how long or on what is covered in an offsite storage facility. You would have to ask them. They might even have recommendations on where you can store it that keeps them happy ;D

I have a storage shed facility on the Sunshine Coast, so whilst the location isn't all that useful to you I might be able to give a few pointers.
Generally we charge $300 per month for an 18 sqm shed that will fit car ct etc. We also have outside but secure storage for caravans and boats etc that cost from $80 per month. Most storage companies will give you a reasonable discount for taking 6 to 12 months up front and paying a few months in advance.
There are major security advantages to getting a unit in a modern new complex in terms of insurance and your own piece of mind when it comes to security. Also these operations will offer you insurance directly. How this works is we have a floating insurance amount that we can vary over the phone and your amount is simply added to the total and the increase in premium is passed on to you, a lot of people do this with furniture etc, but I think you'll find your car/ct insurer will be fine with it being stored in one of these complexes.
Don't be afraid to haggle for a bargain and compare quotes etc. In the present market these guys want your business.
Happy hunting.
Cheers
