Title: Palm Creek Cape York, a walk in the park really.
Post by: Gunna Do on July 29, 2011, 08:15:42 AM
Just make sure your roof rack is bolted up tight,   :cup:

.........and not overloaded!

Oh, and have the right music playing, it seems to make a difference.

Try not to let the lack of momentum hold you back also. ;D

Perhaps the roof rack was meant to do that - when the going gets rough it falls off, fills in the ruts and provides more grip.  >:D

Only a few years ago we did palm creek (2/3 of the OTT in total) in a stock standard rodeo with BFG AT's - no winch, max tracks, snatching required. Just goes to show how the condition of the track changes, doesn't seem to be helped by these guys either.

Come on Earle, you know you need a 6" lift, twin lockers, 12,000lb winch, four sets of Max Trax and a brand new set of 37" Baja Claw mud tyres to do the OTL.  If not stay at home.  ;D ;D ;D

Oh No. Why do that so fast. It was a challange for some this year, Frostd and us had no issues but some did. No way going quick was going to help IMO...

I'm not going to add all that stuff unless I can figure out a way to mount a jet engine so I can try creek exits faster than that guy in the Pajero.  ;D

A tale to tell , the wife had a Kia Rio and had to travel to Boulia on a regular basis , would always stop at the Middleton Pub to check in with  Stoney because after all its 350klm of nothing between Winton and Boulia , pulls up one day inbetween a couple of seriously modified Nissan patrols ,  you know the ones , 4/6 inch lift ,37 inch tires , twin spare carriers ,bullbars, winch and rails , 6 extra lights , roof rack with jerry cans etc , as she gets out of her little Kia she hears a womans voice saying in no uncertain terms to her husband, " Tell me again why we had to spend all the money on car modifications  to drive from Sydney to Boulia to watch the camel races ",,,,,, Makes me laugh when I see all these city folk spend $$$$$$$$ on modifications they " think" they need  for the scrub when locals don't.

The reason we do it is because most of us CITY FOLK like to get away from the beaten tracks that the LOCALS use. How many locals up at Cape York use the OTL as there main track?

Thats the problem with 'The Cape'. Its full of morons in sh1tbox cars with no idea all going 'Yeah... i did the cape' . Even though all up it only about 10 creek crossings. Then they buy their tee shirt ad drive home.
That retard in the cruiser couldn't have made that any harder, and he posted it. Imagine getting stuck behind that.

I kept waiting for the music to change in the cruiser one to some head-banging stuff just as the Cruiser rolled onto its side.  It must have gone close when the video turned away from the action for a while.

Mate, i thought the same, and then the video returns and its still upright, let down, how about his spotter, i didnt think he was real interested, the good old hand signals then turn away, look back more hand sigs... WTF, a hand held UHF would have helped heaps...oh and also a clue on wat he was doing.

Funny none the less.

I too thought it was nice to see everything IN the roof rack nice and secure.
Maybe should have spent a couple more minutes checking the actual roof rack bolts.
Oh ... and slowing the heck down a bit would not have hurt I reckon...
