Here is ours !!!! The Horizontal Waterfalls overnight trip. Leaving Derby in the Kimberleys. Picked up from caravan park at 1415, off to the airport and board the sea plane. Lovely 30 min trip over remote wild country, and over the waterfalls. Land on the water just near the falls, next to a pontoon. Climb off the seaplane, with sharks circling underneath. Watch your footing!! Unload the bags onto the luxury houseboat, then a bit of a swim in the shark proof cage, before boarding the speedboat. We did a run of the waterfalls, yahoo, amazing. Then a bit of a trip around the creeks. Back onto the houseboats' top deck for predinner drinks. Only 4 couples per night, so great chats, and no crowds. Had barra cooked on the bbq, and heaps of it, with great salads, followed by desert. Over dinner they tell us we might do another run of the falls in the am. Up early, breakfast, then back in the speed boat. What fun. Then back on the seaplane for a great flight over the Buckaneer Archipeligo. Back in Derby at 0815 as promised. This trip was amazing, and yes will put photos up when we get home. It was exxy, but, hey, so is breathing!!

Climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Was a great day and we are going to go back and do a dawn climb in the not too distant future.

In Easter 2008 we spent 4 nights at the Royal Malewane, a private game reserve adjacent to the Kruger National Park. We had 8 hours of Safari's every day spotting all of the big 5 plus much much more (truly amazing...), and even better we were fortunate enough to stay in the Royal Suite. I think the resort only fits around 22 people max, everyone stays in their own bungalow, with each bungalow having its own plunge pool where you relax during the day and watch the animals walk past. We also snuck in a massage one day in the spa which also have a lap pool. This is way over extravagant for us to afford, but my wife lived with the family's daughter in London who own the place and we met her and her family there and they didnt charge us a cent. If you have a look at the website, we were also fortunate enough to say in La Residence in Franschhoek for 1 night up in the wine region which was also stunning.

I would say though a very close second was 3 weeks driving through the Kimberley, and I have to agree with krisandkev the Horizontal Waterfalls in spectacular, although we just did the day trip.

At the right time of the year, usualy winter,,,go on the guided sunset tour at Undara national park and stand in the stream of Bent wing micro bats,(appprox 40,000 or more of them), for nearly 1 1/2 hours as they exit from Barkers tube, on their nightly insect feeding hunt. You might also be lucky enough to see their predators in action, too. ;D

Several years ago went on a 4 day boat cruise on the Amazon. Luxury boat, caught piranah, jungle hike, swam with the pink dolphins. Under the watchful eye of armed guards to keep the notives off. Awesome!!!!

Did a hot air balloon ride last year. Was brilliant!
X 2 ... was a birthday present from my family. Was pretty darn good and made getting out of bed at 4am so worth it! The landing was interesting. Would definitely do it all again tomorrow. ;D

In 1997 I did the mule ride down to the bottom of the Grand Canyon (ala Brady Bunch), stayed overnight at the bottom at Phantom Ranch along the banks of the Colorado River and then rode back up the next day. Increadibly scary and amazing. If the group stops you have to point your mule towards the edge - (very scary when they lean over the edge to try to eat a tuft of grass), but apparently you have to do that because if they get a fright they jump backwards! Half way down you stop for lunch and then before you leave for the second half they totally hose you with water till you are drenched because the heat in the second part is so hot you would pass out if not soaking wet.
Then in 2006 I did a scenic plane flight from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon, helicopter down into the Grand Canyon to the bottom, boat ride along the Colorado River, helicopter back to the top, lunch on the rim, and plane back to Las Vegas.

I cant really decide balloning over Melb , diving with manter rays in QLD or The shark dive in the Melb aquarum . All good 8)

Great ideas. Don't know about the grand canyon though. If that was on my farm, the landcare blokes would have it declared a natural disaster and then get me named and shamed on Landline for months.

southern Africa as an exchange student in 1984 (before all the sh*t hit the fan),
wasn't going to post as it's to hard to narrow down the best thing but then reading about the Grand canyon, remined me of the fish river canyon in South West Africa (Namibia) 2nd largest, but some say more spectacular
anywhere really that nots working for living does it for me at moment ......

It was hard to narrow down, but 3 weeks in the Galapagos Islands would have to be the pick. Serengeti would be a close second.

These all sound awesome. My favorite would have to be the sunrise balloon trip in Alice Springs, was such a beautiful start to my trip.

not as far travelled as some of the rest of you, but 1 of my favourite places is sunset at the 'tip' at trial harbour. has to be the best 'tip' in the world. Failing that simply sitting on top of the cathedral in Victoria and looking out over the country side and realising that you are no longer stressed out and you only travelled an hour from Healesville. Or perhaps sitting on top of Mt Ben Lomond and letting the world drift by. Yes I know was supposed to be 1 favourite, but all three at different times have had a profound impact on me.

Did Pisa, the Popes place, the big round thing (gladiator) German castles, The Queens place, some old Greek buildings ;D

Really? Camping? Did you know that there's things in there that will eat you? I mean, Australia has it's share of dangerous critters, but we ain't got nuthin' on that place... ;D
