Title: Slide out kitchen 'runners'.
Post by: Old Codger on June 25, 2011, 11:57:27 AM
I have a problem with my 'Ezytrail' slide out kitchen.

Something is stopping it from sliding all the way in,  or all the way out,  on the 'telescopic tracks'.

Each of the tracks seem to be matched so that one set is slightly larger than the other,  and when the kitchen reaches a certain point it stops with a metallic 'clunk'! It will not completely extend or retract into the CT.

A friend in Qld said that there is a "latch" or 'clip" on each of those side runners that can be unlatched to allow the entire kitchen to be removed.  I can find one latch on one side,  but not on the other and it can be barely moved and does not seem to do much.

I am in a situation that the CT cannot be taken on the road as the main swing door cannot be closed as the kitchen will not retract.

I would GREATLY appreciate any ideas/solutions members may have.

Thanks.

Yes there usually is a 'keeper' latch to stop the slide coming all the way out.

Got any pics of the slides?

I have taken 3 pics,  but they are all 1.2 Mb in size.

How do i reduce them to comply with the criteria?

Hi,
open each one in Paint or a similar program and reduce the size to about 800 pixels longest side, and then save it with a different name.
Or if you upload them to Picassa or similar, they will reduce automatically.
cheers

I have managed to get the pics loaded into 'Picasa',  but still learning how to drive it!

How do I get the pics uploaded into a reply in this thread?

SIGH!

Hi,
the code to put an image in is 3 simple parts

1.   declare the code for an image
      e.g.   [img]

2.    link the image by right clicking on it and copying its location
e.g. it should look some thing like .....
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-fg1I5_2Pmdk/TQnj8UH54JI/AAAAAAAAAVg/X_MsGTK3H8E/s640/IMG_4329.JPG

3.  declare the code for ending the image
     e.g. [/img]

and voila!

we have an image..

Mate we use these at work all the time
It sounds like there some dirt or something stuck in it sometimes you can give them a blow out with compresed air
or spray wd40 on the slides
as they jam up it only works on part of the slide
even though it is making a metal sound and stopping keep pushing it in and out and will eventualy free up
dont be scared to give it a good wack

Hope this works, if it does, thanks all very much.   I sure hope it gives an indication of what i am seeing.  This obstruction is DEFINITELY metallic,  and no amount of persuasion will shift it.

What i need to do is extract the entire kitchen unit, and clear or fix whatever it is that is stopping the free slide of the unit along the tracks..

SIGH!

You need to host your pics somewhere rather than link from your computer. You have PM.

If you are using windows download and install the resize power toy.

This allows you to simply resize pictures by right clicking on them (or a group of them) and selecting resize. You can then choose which size you want them. Is a FANTASTIC utility which frankly should be part of windows as a default.

For Windows. XP download it here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/windows-xp (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/windows-xp)

For Windows Vista / 7 download a clone (Microsoft dont make it for vista/7 but this company has a clone) works the same way. Download here. http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/image-resizer-powertoy-clone-for-windows-7vista/ (http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/image-resizer-powertoy-clone-for-windows-7vista/)

I then upload my pics to tinypic http://www.tinypic.com/ (http://www.tinypic.com/)

Hope that helps.

Or you could just right click then send to mail and resize :)

FAILED!

Could someone give me an email address that I can send these pics so they can be loaded via that person?

This task is beyond my knowledge.

OC you mate is right, those little 'catches' allow you to separate the slide.  You have located one of them, but from the pic you cant see the other.
It seems possible that the manufacturer uses 2 different slides for some reason.
Q. if you operate the catch (by moving it up or down) and pull out the slide will it come, and will the other slide extend to a point that allows you to see the catch?

Another thing that goes wrong is the screws or pop rivets that attach it sometimes get loose or come completely off and get stuck causing them to stick out and stop the runners working properly.

Ive had that happen a few times with draw slides.

bnk,

I have the feeling that that is what is happening,  but the tricky bit is getting the kitchen unit out of the way first.

Old Codger Those slides can be a real PITA when they get stuck.

first thing I'd try would be to remove the whole kitchen from the fixed slide in the camper. In your 2nd photo there is a little plastic tab. To remove the draw, pull it out just so you can see that tab, hold that up or down (depends on which way the slide is mounted) and carefully pull the kitchen out to release it from the draw slide, it will only need to be pulled out around an inch or so to release it. You dont have to hold and release both slide's together, they can be released individually.

If it comes out you can then fix the problem and then slide the draw back into the runners.

Here's a photo of the slides on my camper. there is a little engraved arrow showing which way to hold the tab to release the slide.

If that fails you may need to remove the whole runner assembly and kitchen as one piece from the camper.

Old Codger,

You may also have a very slight bend in the runner that may be causing the draw to jam up. That was what mine did after one of the kids climbed on it and bent it. It made a horrible scraping noise when I tried to shut it, and then popped a couple of bearings.

Hope you work it out.

Cheers
