Today I went for a run out to Notch Point to say G'day to Brett, and on the way back I decided to do a bit of a detour and have a look at Cape Palmerston.
So out on the beach I go, and halfway down the beach I come across this, totally abandoned -

From the look of it it was stranded fairly recently (maybe on the morning tide), all of inside was covered in sand. I tried to pull it further up the beach so it would be easier for NP&W to get a truck to it, but even with the help of a passerby with a Pajero the best we could do was about 15m.
I have no idea what was going through their heads taking this out onto the beach. Where it was stuck is a known spot for really soft sand, it had no chance of making it up the beach, and even if it did it would be pretty tough going to get to the campgrounds.

I don't think there was much going thru their heads at the time.. But it does remind me of a time when I mate took a bog stock '78 subie into the dunes and got it bogged upto the axles and called rac to tow him out ;D

Maybe it was an amphibious vehicle that was used by asylum seekers and ditched when thy hit land ;D
On a serious note i would say they must have been under the influence of something
-
Yeah, from a quick look inside it was definitely a hippie wagon :)
You can still see some of the tree branches that they laid down to try and get some traction.
-
It will be driven by the same type of idiots who come out here and tear up our outback dirt roads when they're wet and closed because "they're tourists and the roads aren't closed to them"... ::) (no joke, that is what people have told the publican at Louth when he queried why they were there when the roads had been shut.)
Worst case of littering I've seen for a while...hope they track down the owners and fine them appropriately.
-
Finders keepers if you can get it home.
-
I do wonder if they were Australian or some other back packer, considering they have no NFI about driving on sand.
-
We got called out to a few recoveries like that out Boat harbour in the RFS - usually at high tide, the dude about 1-2klms round the beach with no way on earth of getting to him until low tide.... so we'd go home, no way I was driving our tanker up the beach at high/king! :) Parks could sort it out tomorrow...
that bus looks lke it still has a snatch strap on the front?
-
It was a ratchet strap, I hope they didn't try to use it to pull it out.

No, we will be in a wicked van 'eh geeza'
I think its great, good on them for having a go, plus, now you have accomodation on the beach, I hope it had a solar set up to keep the fridge cold.
-
hope they make them pay for the recovery,
and I would make them pay dearly for the price of stupidity.........
-
That's pretty funny.
No plates on the front - did they take the rear one as well?
Good work trying to drag it away, by the sounds of things someone will need to get a tractor down there.
Thanks!
Matto :)
-
Gee I could not remember where I parked the Car... O0 Thanks symon.

Yeah they took the plates off, but not the compliance plate with the VIN number on it, so they will be able to track them down.
-
Thats not the " A Team " on holidays is it ???
-
now you have accomodation on the beach,
At 9am it is beach front, at 3pm it is one of those nifty over/in water bures that have in the islands.
