Nice work Barneys! They had a segment on the last 4WDAction DVD about the new Polaris systems. They look really good.

They're actually the reason I started looking into GPS/reverse camera systems again, as I've really wanted somethign that ticks all the boxes like they do. Being a cheap bastard, I think I've almost got a similar setup for only a couple of hundred bucks. I don't doubt that the Polaris units are better quality than what I've ended up with though.

As for mounting, depends whether it's a 2-DIN in-dash system (which means you'll replace your stereo with it, assuming the Prado's have a double-din stereo opening), or if it's a standalone "portable" unit that you just suction-cup onto the windscreen.

Good luck - I'm looking forward to hearing what you think of the unit once it arrives!

Congrats!
Matto :)

Congratulations  :cup:

A mate of mine mounted a double din unit in his 2000 Prado, he had to modify the dash a little to make it fit as although the radio slot is double din the surround was designed to fit pretty flush with the Toyota radio.

That said he modified it to suite the unit he got, yours might go in a piece of cake as it will be a different model. I can post pics if you like.

Nice work.

I have been looking at these for the last few months and they look bloody good. The hardest part is choosing the right one for me. I like the idea of the next generation with very little in the way of moving parts but im tossing up between it and the normal one with cd player and the option of a tyre monitoring system...its too hard ... choices... im thinking the normal one for me and hopefully the cd stands up to the vibrations...

Unless you want to sell yours on the cheap...lol... >:D

Hi barneys
There was a nice surprise in todays post, my Polaris arrived !!!!!!!!.
It's Mod No: NG7700
So I just have to work out if I will fit it to the cruiser myself, or get it fitted.
Glad to hear the volume control problem is solved.
Cheers

Hi
I am installing it in the cruiser at the moment.
It is in the car and working, still the camera wire to run to the rear, a couple of wire to connect and facia to refit etc., but have tested it all ok.
One of the wires on the loom out of the radio says "Brake Input", a blue wire, this has to be earthed, either to an earth on the radio / mouting brackets, or, if wiring correctly to the handbrake, giving an earth when the hand brake is on. If not you get the message you are getting.
I also had a Mini Digital TV Set Top Box from Dick Smith, (a little bit larger than a cig packet) laying around, so I have installed it via the AV Input RCA jacks at the rear. Works ok on the desk with the house antenna when tested, but the 3" magnetic antenna isn't much good out here in the country, but may work in area's with stronger tv signals, ........ just something to play around with !!!!!!!!!!!!
Cheers
Neil

Hi
The only wires I haven't connected yet, are "Amp Control" which I assume goes to an external amp if fitted ! (which I don't) and " Steering Key + ", which I have absolutely no idea what it does, or where it goes to. I assume it may have something to do with radio controls on the steering wheel, but the cruiser hasn't, so I am leaving unconnected at this stage until I find out. I have Googled it, but nothing that makes sense yet !!
Cheers

Hi barneys
Great to hear.
Is that with the handbrake on, or has the brake wire been earthed ?
Mine is all in and working, fascia etc back in. Only job left is to run the camera wire to the rear.
I also today, finally replaced the broken mast in the electric antenna, so now goes up and down as it is supposed too !!
While I was setting some radio stations in the memory, I came across a "Radio Area" setting, setting an area via a map, (page 32 in the user manual) but can't select Australia, what is yours set to ?
I don't remember what mine was set to before I tried to set it to Aust. I think I set it to Europe and seems to work ok ?!?!
Cheers
Neil

Hi all I have the Hema maps in mine and just so you are aware they are not turn by turn navigation. They are designed to pin point you on the screen so you can work out exactly where you are on your paper maps. Just like a magellan explorist 500 or similar but probably more advanced. It comes with a disc that you put in your computer and you can plan your trek and download to your SD card and install in the Polaris unit.

PS Mine isn't the next gen model it is the normal one PID1621 or something it was called but should work the same.
