Real annoyed here, swaggers.
Conned the minister for war and finance into a new camper, easy.
Fixed up all the annoying little things on it that weren't finished right, not that bad.
Spent a few hundred dollars on some more gear to make the outfit complete, OK.
Done all this ( according to my master plan ) in time for all the long weekends coming up, mission accomplished.
Have the option of a bunch of decent spots to go to within an hour of home, tantalising.
Longest weekend we've ever seen, too much.
EVERYONE, INCLUDING ME WITH THE BLOODY FLU FOR THE LAST WEEK, BIG PROMISE OF TORRENTIAL RAIN, AND NOT A THING PACKED WITH NO HOPE OF DOING IT BECAUSE OF ALL THIS,
a little bit disappointing to say the least.
What is your biggest rip off for the holidays?
-
Ouch not good, I wish you all a speedy recovery.
My big holiday ripoff was Christmas just gone had planned a good long camp with the whole family. Unfortunatly my Father Passed away Boxing day, needless to say we did not camp.

Years ago when working in Europe I won an all expenses holiday to the opening ceremony of the Munich beer fest, flights, accom and spending money. The date of the trip co-incided with the arrival date of our first child and funnily enough the missus wouldnt have a bar of me going away for 5 days to drink "eins gross beir" x 20 per day! ???:'(

having young kids that are germ hoovers, i continually get robbed of going away. one day the moons will allign and ill be able to get away again. i feel your pain.
-
I feel for you carinya - that sucks.
When we drove down to Brissy last October to pick up out Trackabout, we had planned to make a holiday out of it and camp at Rainbow beach / Fraser island on the way back home. Of course, our trip coincided with the bad storms that lashed the SE coast and inland corner - there was no beach left at Rainbow Beach, all the roads west were cut and flooded out (we just made it through Theodore and Chinchilla on the way down), and pretty much anywhere on the south coast was ruined for a month. We ended up at a caravan park at Agnes Waters, which actually turned out to be pretty good, but really not what we had in mind! A big HD offroad trailer sitting up on a nice concrete pad!
I hope you can salvage some holidays later in the year. Just think - now you've to time for even more mods to the camper! You're going to have the flashest setup of all when you finally get out there... ;D
Sorry to hear about your loss Neil - that's a terrible way to have your plans rearranged. I hope your family has good memories of your old man.
As for you Flemo, well, I suspect that's grounds for divorce in some countries...
Thanks!
Matto :)

Honestly you don't want to go camping this weekend. Camping crammed in with ten thousand people all around you is not my idea of a good time! ;)
cheers
-
Flemo, I hope you got to name the child.
"amber", "bubbles" are two that come to mind

I know how you feel mate, I bought the 4X4 and the camper trailer then all the recovery equipment and heaps of other gear, even had the food packed ready for a 12 week holiday through the Centre and the Kimberly's. My wife and I both had our holidays approved and then I ended up in hospital the day we were supposed to leave (beginning of March) with a back operation. So it will be sometime before it will now happen, the only conselation with your flue is a couple of weeks and it will be over and hopefully you will be able to go.

Packed all the gear and got the CT ready last night to have a break for this Easter. Problem is no truck to tow with, had some work being done on it this week and was just informed it wont be finished now until next week. :'(

Have to agree with Jeeps.
Last get-away before winter comes on, places will be packed. 2pm yesterday, couldn't get a carpark at our local woolies, majority of the numberplates where blue n white...the terriorist had arrived, & inside was even worse.
Wait 2/3 weeks, both you & the wife pull a sickie on the friday, keep the kids home from school, & head out. Not a long one, but still good 8)

Had just returned from a Contiki tour around the UK back in 2002; had such a great time about one month after I got home I booked one around Europe. All was done deposit paid. Single at the time so had no hassles about going OS.
About 3 months before the trip I met my now fiancee; 6 weeks later, she says i am pregnant. I said F#@& me how did that happen (a bit stupid in hindsight).
Anyway trip cancelled, baby girl born. Since then we have had another girl and I haven't been to Europe. Put this down for something to do in retirement.
The positive of this; I now have a lovely family and in about 8 weeks a sexy new Swan will be in the driveway.
How quickly life can change.

We had planned a camping trip last weekend, not far from here, in an attempt to "test out " the trailer. When we drove up there the creek crossings were flooded :S So we headed home and spent the evening at home. The wife was happy as she didnt want to go. The kids and I were all VERY dissapointed! I devised a plan to head down to our friends property near Texas the next day. Now the wife was keen as she loves this camping spot. So off we headed..... I suffered through the weekend with a horrible sore throat and chest infection. There was NO WAY I was going to tell the wife, I didnt want her to have an excuse to go home! I am suffering now tho, as a week later and I still havent kicked it ! :S Ahh well ....more Rum needed I say!
Cheers Chippy :D

Had similar problem/luck myself back in '87 (not the OS cruise though!)
Had planed & been saving to buy a HQ 1 tonner & slip-on, then pack up & hit the road for parts unknown :D
About 1/2 way to my goal, met a lovely lady who already had a 7 yr old daughter
Things were going along nicely till about 6mths in - I'm pregnant! Can't fit 4 in a 1 tonner, so plan was abandoned :'(
Still together to this day. Another child & still going strong :cup:

Last october long weekend had planned a weekend away with the boys for months at pebbly beach. Left work early on Friday, drove up in the rain from
Wollongong in holiday traffic, got there and got about one day of sun and then torrential rain for 3 days. Rolled the hilux at pebbly and came home with the flu. Also had to stay in a hotel on the way home due to rain. All in all a big waste of money
-
Actually won something a few years ago - Days 1, 2 & 3 of the Sydney Cricket test [vs. the poms 2005 - McGraths last test etc etc] in a corporate box, all expenses paid but it was too close to a planned system upgrade for work so had to relinquish it. Then wouldn't you know it, the upgrade was delayed by 4 weeks.... Bugger Bugger Bugger.
I now have a new policy when it comes to holidays, "I'm Going..come hell or high water"

Was in India 2002 at the airport, checked in for a flight to London to meet up with my Dad (who was also travelling). We had tickets for the next day to Stanford Bridge to watch Chelsea v Aresenal (massive London derby). Though we had spent 6 months in India we never got sick... until of course the final day. My wife was in the airport toilet bowing to the porcelin gods for over an hour. She was then hospitalised for another 3 days.
Hardest decision in my life- to stay with the wife or meet up with her later in London. You know what I chose... she's yelling at me now saying "you're not telling that story are you?" I can't just let her forget it- the sacrifices we make ;D

Had to cancel our 7 week trip to the Kimberlys this year.
Shop is really struggling and the cash just isnt there.
No Matter though we will get there someday :D

Got robbed on holidays... and it robbed us of our holiday.
Went to Port Macquarie for a week. Our first born was due in 3 or 4 weeks. We we staying in a holiday apartment across the rd from the beach.
We always wake early and on this day we went down to the beach for a sunrise walk. In the 45mins we were gone we were robbed. Our wallets were taken from our locked apartment.
SO now we are in Port Mac with no money, no ID and not enough fuel in the car to get home.
We spent the day at the bank proving our identity to get some funds and then at the cop shop. We then went home.
Haven't been to Port Mac since...
