Title: What do you with your Camper Kitchen over night.
Post by: WogsRus on April 12, 2011, 11:40:09 PM
Ok So we have our DPOR coming in two days, finally, the wait has been killing me.

My question is, whilst we have an annex, we will not always be setting up the walls and so forth, so what do people do with the kitchen when they go to sleep or out. do you leave it all set up or do you pack it away or cover it in some way?

Any idea would be great

I always have the annex up, though not the walls. I pack away all utensils and crockery, and food of course, but usually leave the kitchen out.

Same for us. We have, such as a quick over night up the Tanamia not put the anex up but it had zero chance of rain. For the most part we clean up after dinner and leave the kitchen out ready for coffee the next day

Our annex roof always goes up so all good there.

But i was thinking of maybe making a canvas cover for the kitchen, just in case,.

Interesting idea, but my bet is it will be in the way when not on the kitchen.

I usually leave the dpor out in fine weather or under the annex roof if it's up. If i expect rain or similar i just pack it up but it's a pain to muck around with gas and water lines. I have been thinking about getting a good small tarp, laying it over so it hangs underneath and clamping it together underneath with those big black plastic hand clamps from supercheap so it doesn't blow away. I would probably need to lay the dpor return bench ontop of the main part. I just want to keep dew off it mostly.

Cheers

We used to leave it open but not any more.
One night we picked up a small native rodent and couldn't get rid of him for weeks. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(
He even chewed holes in the mesh door. :'( :'( :'( :'(
The only place he could have got in was around the kitchen.
We are heading to the center this year and the tell me that native rodents are in plague proportions after all the rain, you have been warned.

Cheers

During summer, and only when we have the annex roof up, we leave our kitchen out, however during winter we always slide it away of a night time, as this stops the cold entering under the bed.

No annex roof up, the kitchen is always slid away.

We always have either the overnight awning or the full annex awning up and leave the kitchen pulled out - so much easier for the essential early morning cup of tea.  Our kitchen is all stainless steel so a bit of rain blowing under the awning won't hurt it.

Put all the food away though, otherwise the possums/bush turkeys/curlews will have a field day.

As most others have said, ours is left open but everything packed away. Our awning is always up as well. As for un wanted visitors getting in, the kitchen is rodent proof if draws are shut up and under the camper we have a metal divider that seperates the tail gate kitchen area from the front of the trailer, so he would have a long hungry death.

We pack ours away, We seem to attract the local wildlife. One time was camping camping in the Fraser National Park when Mrs GU Rich heard some russling outside. She opened the zip then to her surprise there was a roo only centimeters from here head when the door was opened. It gave me a laugh!

I use a rubbish bag on the spare wheel of the GU which keeps smells and animals at bay.

We have always got the annex up so the kitchen stays out, there is not much room for cold air to get in and now with the pantry drawers only trained circus bears could get to the food
