Hey peoples,
Please point me in the direction of any approriate links/threads, but I was unable to find anything using the search function.... probably my incompetance!! :-[
I'm looking at buying a double swag in the next few weeks and not sure which brand to buy. I'd like a Bourke & Wills but wayyyy too expensive for my liking. Again even the Jolly Swagman or True Blue swags are something I like.
Ok things I WANT in my swag
- Has to be a double swag
- Must be 1300+ in width
- Preferably top must fold open all the way to bottom of the swag but not essential.
- Must be able to open the head of the swag as an alternate opening/ventilation.
- Still undecided on Canvas or PVC base as yet.. so please tell me the positives and negatives of both!!
Any help would be great!!

I bought a swag the other weekend. I found these guys the cheapest http://www.greatescapecamping.com.au/burke-wills-coolabah-swag-single-double-p-159.html and I had Anaconda price match -10% :) Most people I spoke to said canvas base and that is what I bought.

I vote the PVC base as well (after owning both). Keeps ya nice and dry in damp conditions. Check out Oztrail.http://www.oztrail.com.au/WebPage.gtl?Product=CSW-MITD-D?currentgroup=ZZZ002?currentsubgroup=SWAG (http://www.oztrail.com.au/WebPage.gtl?Product=CSW-MITD-D?currentgroup=ZZZ002?currentsubgroup=SWAG)

before you buy a double swag. Go buy a cheap poly tarp and fold it over and staple it down one side the same width as the swag. Then spend a night in it with the missus.
It may help your decision
PS
Canvas bottom, breathes better, I spend 2 months in my jolly swag matilder biker swag a year with no probs.

My choice was a Brumby XL swag by Down Under Swags (http://www.downunderswags.swag.com.au/cgi-bin/products.cgi?id=180975816439451251949974#Brumby).

I have an Oztrail Mitchell double
(http://www.gladstonecampingworld.com.au/images/CSW-MITD-D.jpg)
have had it for around 4 years. No problems with the mrs not liking it, we are always toasty warm.
The big test was a cross country trip we did in June/July 2008, 7 weeks in total, including across the Simpson and down the Canning, with about 35 nights spent in the swag. It was great. Quick set up at the end of a long day was welcome. along with never being cold. When available we used cabins and if we stayed in one spot for more than a night we put up the tent.
The Oztrail is a good quality swag, water proof and insect proof, would I buy one again, well yes I did, a single for those weekends away with the boys. All canvas, but I use a polytarp as a ground sheet.

Saul Swags heavy natress and 1 blanket and we survive in 2.0 degrees

Don't know were you are, but do a google on John Wilsher make's a good swag.

Finally rolled up my swag today after seasoning it for a few weeks. Rolled up it is way bigger than I expected. If I strap it to the roof racks I'll probably rip it off via low branch on a track. How do people usually carry their swags?
-
Girly man danbri makes a good swag bag. If not make sure you carry it across your roof rack, not end on. That way if it rains the water wont blow in the roll. Go out the back and sleep in it. Look up at the moon and think how good life is.. Shit i sound like speewa

Thanks for the tip, I also bought a swag bag with the swag. It almost needs a compression sack like sleeping bags have...

Still undecided.. leaning towards the Bourke & Wills Coolabah Double... now just got to find it for the right price.
Wondering if theres anywhere within the Syd-Newcastle... or online that does them pretty cheap. Anyone help out??

See my post above re prices. A word of caution on the double, my king single is HUGE, a double would be a PITA to pack somewhere.

And hard to sleep in no matter how much you think you like your missus.

Maybe he's a jockey :)

I've had a Burke and Wills single without pvc base for ages- I use a tarp but make sure the edges of the tarps are tucked under the swag otherwise it collects water and the swag gets damp. Great bag, good quality and Aussie made.
Just bought a Kulkyne double swag (new release) with a pvc base and great mattress - has 3 support loops so no droop in the canvas and it's a great size too. Has a the best combination of features out of everything I've looked at. It's huge but that's what I bought it for, need to be miles from swambo to get away from her snoring................oh hell here she comes gotta g........arghhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!
