Hi All,
How many are using fridge thermometers?
What type are you all using? (if any)
For those that have a 'cabled' thermometer, how does it cope on the seal of the lid of your fridges?
Thanks in advance
Cheers Cruisindub

I'm on my third one, first was the engel white one, cable hung inside cabinet with dual readout on the unit,,cable broke on many ocasions,
Second was the engel two part unit, red one, not worth it, could not get a reading from the fridge while it was in the back of the ute,.
Third one is the everkool branded unit, perfect, only short cable to hang inside the cabinet, good range from transmiter to reciever and very clear readout,,

I bought a cheapie little LCD from china off ebay and it has been working great for over 12 months now. Only cost about $5 I think. Doesnt affect the sealing as the seal just squashes around the lead which is very thin anyway.
Cheers Scott

We have an Evacool remote unit that BHG has, we had the Engel unit but it won't work if the fridge has a bag on it.
The Evacool unit is made by Two Zone.

Bought one of these from Derek at ABR Sidewinder (http://www.sidewinder.com.au/page125.html). It's bounced around in the camper for many trips and is still going strong. Love the max/min temperature record on both the inside and outside temperature readings, and we've had no problem with the fridge seal closing over the cable.

Hi,
we use the Engel wireless one, workd ok from the back of the dual cab to inside at the front with a full load no worries,
now we have two fridges (smaller as a freezer), does anyone know do they all work on the same frequency or can I run a second without reading each otheres sender unit??
cheers
Garry

We have one of the engel wireless thermometers - basically it was hopeless, it would work for a short period of time, then once the batteries in the transmitting unit got cold it would stop working.
-
We use the engel wireless one. Works from back of rodeo dual cab. Pita if you don't carry receiver out with fridge though. Have to remove batteries from both units to make work again. Even bigger pita when fridge loaded, as I put sender between basket and fridge liner at back.

I also bought the jacar one. No probs as far as I can see with the cable and the fridge seal. very cheap
-
We had a Engel one, it constantly lost signal from the transmitter to the reciever and I was forever taking the batteries out to reset it.

maybee I jagged a good one as have had no probs with the one I have, even at -18 in the deep freeze @ home,

Whatever you use ... go wireless ....

Why?

So you can keep an eye on the temp without going to the fridge to see, is also handy the have the remote sitting in the front of the vehicle, it helps if you have forgotten to turn your fridge on, like I did once ;D

I have had the Egle wireless one for about 12 months.
Mine works perfect.. touch wood.
I have the fridge in the back of the wagon and no problem with transmission for the sender. I have often even taken the unit out of the car and put in the camper to see what it temp gets down to in cold weather. Even then there is no problem with the reception from the fridge in the back of the car.
-
Why?
I bought a $10USD unit ... the sender goes in the fridge ... the digital receiver is up in front with me ... also shows
the ambient temp in the cab ......
-
I also have one of the Engel red and black wireless units and it works a treat in the Patrol. When not on a trip the fridge lives in the garage keeping the gold fluid cold and so far I have never had to resync the units. Drive away and it loses signal but as soon as they are back in range temp readings...
Having the head unit permanently mounted in the Patrol also gives me inside temp.........Highest I have seen in the Patrol so far are 58.3celcius!!!!!!!!!!!
Having the temp gauge has also saved me when I noticed the temp climbing on a recent trip......ended up being that the connector inside the side panel had come away and I had lost power to the fridge.......without the temp gauge I never would have realised and I would have had to have had warm beer later in the day........and the other food may have spoiled...

Love the Engel wireless works well in my ARB fridge.
-
Thanks to all who replied.
All much appreciated.
Some good info there and will take it all into account.
Cheers, Cruisindub

Engel with cord
(keep the sender up at the top and away from the sides to get an accurate reference for warmest cabinet temp)
-
Um....why would you need one, my Bushman fridge has a digital thermostat, just set and forget.

So does my Waeco, when you but a 'proper' thermometer you will know why you need one :)

My fridge has it's own temperature gauge, but I have to be in the back looking at the fridge to see it, I use the engal because I can see it in the cab when driving etc

I was going to buy one or two of these Mini Lcd Refrigerator Freezer Fridge Digital Thermometers (http://www.dragonext.com/mini-lcd-refrigerator-freezer-fridge-digital-thermometer-temperature.html) but they'd sold out. I see they're back in stock now.

I was going to buy a "............Mini Lcd Refrigerator Freezer Fridge Digital Thermometers" but they'd sold out. I see they're back in stock now.
they appear to only give instantaneous temperature - not also the Minimum and the Maximum temperatures during the day :'(

Why? Have'nt you got enough confidence in your make of fridge to keeps its temp whilst travelling?
I'm not taking the piss, I'm just saying.

I was given the engal unit so I tried it and found it handy to have in the front to see what was happening in the fridge and the cab, as it has both fridge temp and also cabin temp too, is just another toy you play with because you have it.
The real value I find with it is the Maximum and Minimum temperatures are both shown, as in the photo, you can see if your getting too high at any time and make adjustments.

OK

I have two cheapies. one mounted on the outside of the fridge so it can be seen through the back window and the other mounted on the centre console so I can see it from the drivers seat. Can check while driving along and easily when in camp. Why are they needed? The fridge is a Waeco CF50 and it can be easily "accidentally" turned off when someone is leaning into it to get her favorite tipple, has happened more that twice :'(
-
I have the LaCrosse WS9123UIT similar to this: http://www.lacrossetechnology.com/9121/index.php
$30 or $40 bucks from Bunnings, so far so good...the transmitter is in the fridge in camper, and signal easily received two rooms away in a double brick house...seems good but have only had it 3 months
Cheers,
-
We have a TwoZone wireless unit its great never missed a beat
-
Ive had 2 fail now. One i bought from bunnings which lasted a couple of trips, and the engel wireless one shyt itself after 1 trip.
The base units are still working ok and showing ambient temps, so im thinkin the wireless units cant handle the temps in the fridge.
Anyone come up with any other brand worth trying of late?
-
My Engel temp gauge died last week too :'( :'(
had it about 3 yrs, so will live with-out one now
-
Had the red an black Engel unit and it was the biggest piece of unreliable poo there is. Heard good reports about the Evakool wireless unit so bought one. Great unit with excellent distance. Has fridge and ambient temp on the main display and fridge temp on the fridge unit. As we take the fridge out of the car when we set up the camper, we can tell the temp from either area. Batteries last for ages as well.
Regards
David

Hey BD,
Have had it for around 18 months now. I think I bought it from a small shop here in Mackay called 12V Fridge & Power as BCF had none (only places that sold wireless units locally). Just did a quick Google search and they are still for sale within Australia:
