I've done my time carrying my tent, then moved on to dome tents and camping out of the back of the wagon and now I'm looking at making something more comfortable.
I've taken the kids camping a few times and the camp ends up looking like a bomb has gone off with 1/2 unpacked plastic boxes of food and stuff spread around so mu goal this year to to make a camper to go on teh back of the ute and fit a tent on top of that. Kill 3 birds with 1 stone bu making everything secure, organised and it is easier to pack away if it isn't unpacked in the first place.

G'day Hoyks and welcome to Myswag. Keen to see how your proposed creation turns out.

G'day & Welcome Hoyks, good to have you on board.
I like your idea, but wonder will a roof topper have enough room for a family?

I might, but 'in to' hardly covers it, obsessed might be closer to the mark ;D.
As for fitting in the family, kids are 10 and 4 and the wife is allergic to camping. She did consider it when I told her I could get an inverter to run the coffee machine.

So...not even having a camper trailer parked in her front yard overnight was enough to convince her just how well camping can be done? ;D

Well, you didn't set it up and it lacks aircon/electric blanket.

One and the same. I try and keep the one log-in, saves confusion ;)

There is a family over here in Newman selling their camper with a Delonge portable air con system... not sure how it would work with the canvas walls etc.... and you can buy 12v electric blankets! I have one in my Trackabout! So you might be able to make Mrs Hoyks comfortable in a CT!!

Yep, moved here from Newie last year. I've done a few Wattagans trips, but you probably met me back when I had the Terrano II.
