Title: Yet another new (old) chum
Post by: Muso on January 27, 2011, 05:51:42 AM
Hiya all, just bought my new (old) 2006 supermatic and loving it. 2 people have asked if it's new, and are quite suprised when i tell them I'm the 3rd owner. Obviously it's in perfect condition and like my intention of only going öff bitumen" as opposed to off-road has apparently been the life for this little beauty. We've had out practice open and close on the front lawn and wifey has set up the inside ready for out first trip. Additions to be made are a tackle box, solar and wind power (not into umbilical cord camping). Looking forward to our first trip to Waikerie in a cuppla weeks.

As it's name suggests ESCAPE""

Hi Musso and welcome to forum.

Where are you planning to camp at Waikerie because the river is up higher than normal at the moment and some campsites have been inundated.

  Brett

Welcome to the forum Muso, the wind power option sounds interesting and there has been some discussion about it before, what are you using?

Thanks for the response gang. Yeah, was a local Adelaide muso for 35 years and tossed it not long after the pokies came in. I was more a cabaret type playing country/rock.
Now for Waikerie. We live at the Virginia Residential park and the owner here also owns Office Beach CP at Wallaroo, one at Port Pirie and the Waikerie CP and residential across the road. (he also recently bought the Murray River Queen, guess I'll have to get the water skis out again).
As for Waikerie, we intend to go up there on 4,5,6 Feb and if a bit soggy might dash downstream to blanchetown below the Lock. And if that doesn't work I'll come back home (less than 2 hour drive) and set up on the front lawn. By the way, I bought a 9 foot 6 inflatable with an as new 3hp Yamaha ob from a friend.
Going to start with the solar panels first to see how they can (or cannot) keep up with the demand. Wind power will come later. A few years ago, the wife and I built a 40 foot cedar strip catamaran which we were living on and were at the point of the final fitout when it burnt to the ground (almost taking out the both of us) and I''m kinda keen on the AirX which I was going to fit to the cat. Wifey keeps saying the camper is not a sustitute boat.
Anyhow will update later.

P.S. Forget to mention, we only have a Commodore wagon, so will be a bit restricted where we go, although Jack Absolam went up the Strezlecki in his Mitsubishi wagon (with a film crew which would make a big difference)
Catcha later

Muso There is a diferance between a 4WD & your wagon  Ground clearence . You dont need to have twin diffs unless you want to climb steep hills . Take it slow & you will get there . A 4X4 will last longer as its built a bit tuffer thats all
I to like both kinds of music Country & Western . Your welcome at my fire place any time
